Default Time for a Euro-Weekend!

well, doug's off to training.. me (DAL wife) and my girl Amanda (CAL wife) are starting to go stir crazy and we want to go somewhere before it starts getting too warm...

question is: WHERE! and who wants to go with?

I've been to Ireland (Dublin), England (London), Germany (entire country), France (paris/nice), Italy (milan/florence), Belgium (Brussels)...where else have i been, oh Switzerland (Zurich more than once).

Amanda's only been to Zurich, so far.

I wouldn't mind going to Copenhagen, Budapest, Amsterdam, Madrid or Barcelona...in fact, my cousin will be in Barcelona and Madrid this month (his vacation).

I'd be too afraid to go to Kiev or Moscow with just us two girls - we'd need manpower to do that trip!!

soooooo...I need help with ideas...do we go somewhere i've already been so she can see it or do we both go to somewhere neither one of us have ever been and get a good challenge going?

and again....who wants to go with? I'm kinda thinking maybe April 20th weekend or April 27th weekend (fri-mon)?

Kristie, I recommend Dubrovnik, Croatia or Prague. Both of those places are hot destinations and it would be best to go before they get too expensive. They're both still affordable. I would LOVE to join you girls but I'll be in New Orleans that weekend. My son is playing the New Orleans Jazz Festival and mama can't miss that!

I'm not sure DAL goes to prague yet...the other two i know DAL doesn't go to...

I'll have to check with Amanda to see if CAL goes to any of them. I'd have to check their codeshare rules but if we couldn't fly DAL, we could try CAL.

Continental does NOT go to Prague.

I had a good time in Edinburgh. Both CO and DL go there.

Wow, Prague is a pretty popular vacation spot. Not sure why CAL and maybe DAL wouldn't service that city!

Edinburgh is a lot of fun. It's a walking city though and I honestly don't know if the weather is nice enough up there yet. (half a tick... google says in the 50s. Not bad.)

look up Zell am See, Austria and Salzburg is about 45 minutes away and you can also get to Vienna by ICE for about 35 euros.

Ahhh yes, I forgot about the non-rev thing. Sorry, I was thinking with my travel agent hat on. Everyone seems to love Prague though, (and Budapest!) and Croatia is kind of like Greece without the Euro prices.

It's too bad that I don't get any breaks on airfare, although CAL just offered me an introductory agent round trip FAM fare to China for $150. YAY CAL!!! I do get some great agent freebies at some REALLY nice properties around the world though.

I'm flying to BCN on the 7th, coming back on the 9th then FCO the next day...

Travelnet shows 8/5 going on Friday & 7/10 going with me on Saturday. Coming back is 7/22 on Sunday and 16/-7 on Monday.

Barcelona is a lot of fun but not too warm this time of year...

amorris, when I went to Santorini, I almost didn't come back, seriously! I was talking to a pilot friend the other day and since my boys are grown, he was telling me that maybe I ought to move to Europe (like he did) for awhile. He mentioned Tuscany (like the San Francisco gal who got a divorce, moved to Tuscany and wrote "Under the Tuscan Sun") and that sounded nice, but I've never been able to get Santorini out of my mind since my time there. Mykonos is a great party island and Maxi would like it but Santorini....ahhh....Rhodes...another great island...and then the shopping in Turkey.....

I have SOOO many good memories of Greece and the Greek Islands...sigh....I bet you could go back with a wife or a girlfriend though, it's so romantic and fun....but given your past visit, sounds like you better watch your back.

And that is going to help them how?

I don't think their idea of a vacation is to spend a couple of days in a box.

I went to Barcelona over spring break to play with my college soccer team. It was a lot of fun and it was really nice there.

Croatia is still a good bargain, but if you think Prague is still affordable I don't think you have been there in a while. Prague has become nothing more then a super tourist trap! Although you can't compare the prices there with the rest of Western Europe, as least not yet. Their entry into the EU is going to make all of the difference, and real soon! The last time I was in Poland I was shock to see how much has changed now that Poland is EU, price wise I mean.

If I had a weekend I would do Greece, and right about now it is still not too hot. Prices are still good, and there is lots to do. The wife and I (Before she was my wife ) would do quick hops over to Greece, and we always had a good time.

Nothing like April in Paris. I hope you gals have a great time! I'll be speaking French that weekend too, only it will be Cajun.

But I will have on my dancin' shoes, be watchin' my boy playing his horn onstage, and of course!....I will be scarfing down some gumbo and jambalaya, rice and beans, beignets, chicory coffee!!!...MmmmMmmm! If for some reason you gals don't make it over to Europe, feel free to join me at the N'awlins Jazz Festival where I plan on giving back some love to the Crescent City!
