Default GRR for a few days...

Hi there Folks,

I'm up here visiting family until Monday or Tuesday depending on loads...

Got a family gathering in St. Johns on Saturday... other than that I have an open schedule.

Anyone around for lunch, dinner/drinks, or snow sledding?

I'm off of Leanard St. NE.

Bob

Cool beans!

I'm out on a trip right now, but should be back in town tonight by 6:00. The wife's got some other stuff going that I ain't invited to, so I could spring free for a quick drink tonight if that works. Otherwise I'll have to see what else we have going on over the weekend...

I'm on the southeast side so it would be easy for me to come up to one of the hole-in-the-wall places up around you, or eastown area or something.

Gotta go fly, I'll check in from Chicago...

Hey that sounds great...

My parents are suggesting Bob's Pizza in Eastown... Haven't been there so don't know for sure.

Do you know where Vitali's is on Leonard? I'm right across from it.

Any other suggestions?

Bob

I don't know Bob's, but I'm sure I could find it. I do know where Vitali's is - haven't been there in years.

I'm all for convenience and a cold beer, so Vitali's is fine if that was a suggestion. Otherwise Bob's works, or there is a small hole-in-the-wall in Eastown called the Pickwick, but that's pretty smokey. More upscale is the bar in Mangiamo's - it's an old mansion converted to a restaurant.

I'm thinking if I get back on time (so far looks good) I could stop at the house and kiss the wife and steal some of her food, then meet you somewhere 7:30'ish?

Whatever as far as time or place. I'm easy (not cheap, but easy - according to my wife). I'll PM you a cell number.

I'm easy too... I haven't "officially" lived here since I was 10 years old... so... I'm up for anything.

Vitali's was just a frame of reference for where I'm located... I can physically see it from my parents front window... So if you know where it is... then you you know where exactly I'm coming from, since my parents said that EVERYONE in GRR knows where Vitali's is...

adreamer was wanting to hook of as well (in another thread)... so hopefully he's seeing this as well.

Regardless... like you... I'm easy! As long as there's snacks!

I'm thinking the Cottage Bar. Here's a map.

I'll call you in a second.

Man, St. Johns. Home of the "Mint Festival". Just missed ya'll by about ten days! My brother still lives in Lansing and my mom is in Durand. I'll be up that way on the 19th to bring my mom down to visit our new place in CVG. Maybe next time.

I actually enjoyed my little sit in GRR, despite the 1/2 mile vis in horizontal blowing snow that we had to land in with poor to fair braking.

Tower: "Well, I see you missed Bravo. Turn right at the highspeed"
Me: "Uh, yeah. We're gonna miss that one, too"
Tower: "No rush. Right turn when able, we're closing 'er down when you clear anyway...."

Did manage to get a good, cheap steak for dinner that night right across the street from the hotel. $6.59 for a steak, baked potato and salad? Sweet.

Hey, I'm still alive nearly a week later, and it satisfied my hunger craving. That's all I need (and want) to know....

Hey Bob, fun stuff! Too bad we ended up in the smokey section (yeah, my wife noticed the smell ), but the conversation and beer made up for it. I had a good time comparing notes and hope we can do it again. Maybe we can get the good looking halves together as well, since a speech path and ped ICU nurse would probably hit it off too. Anytime you're back in town let me know.

Kell, let me know when you hit GRR overnight again and we'll take another shot at meeting up. Sorry it didn't work on Monday, but at least it wasn't snowing down in Asheville where I was. Windy/cold, but no snow. I should have given you my home address and you could have shoveled my drive out while you were just loafing around.

Jeff (adreamer), we'll try to give you a little more notice next time and maybe you could make it over here as well.

Anyone else around the area? Maybe Joel can make it over from Holland...

Steve,

It was a pleasure meeting you sir! I had a great time at my Holiday Family Get-Together in St. Johns this weekend and it was even better since the weekend started on Friday at a cozy little downtown bar with a fellow aviator...

You even kept the weather nice up here for me and my family while we were in town... that's talent!

I'll let you know when we're back in town... We end up back here around 2-4 times a year depending on how often the parents come and visit us.

Regarding the smoke thing... I walked in the house and my wife says "Did you have fun? Ewww... you smell like smoke!" LOL!

Bob

PS: What were we drinking again?

I hope and pray that Steve was feeding you some Bell's, maybe something from their winter brews. A stout or a winter ale perhaps?

Of course Grand Rapids has a few good microbrews, too.

I have not read this part of JC for awhile. Therefore, I missed it. Next time, Steve.

It was out-of-town beer this time. On tap:
