One of those that I would love to go to, but even if I was still in FL, I'd probably pass. The couple of times I've gone it's been so crowded I couldn't enjoy myself. They really need to extended the viewing area on the beach for this one. The harrier demo sounds pretty killer, though.

I've been to this show every year for the past 8 years. It does get old sitting on the beach, in the sun, with 500,000 of you're closest neighbors for 10 hours. You have to get there very early to get a good spot, unless you have VIP tickets from one of the sponsors. Then you get to sit on a roped off area of the beach, with a very large tent that has food and drinks. And parking that is only a 10 minute walk away, instead of the usual 30 minute hike over the bridge, while carrying your cooler, beach chairs, umbrella, and whatever else you need to lug with you.
But I love the show and I'll probably do it again. My favorite part is on Saturday night after the first day of the show. There is usually a good concert, followed by a night demonstration of an F-14. The afterburners look really cool at night. Then the fireworks start and last for a half an hour. Grab some dinner from one of the fine establishments on the corner of Sunrise and A1A, and it's a great night.

Yeah. We got there at around 8 AM. By 12 pm, we were so crowded in that we couldn't hardly move. The tide was coming in, and a lot of people had camped in FRONT of us (dumbasses). So, they were moving back. Meanwhile more people were coming in and camping BEHIND us. Even if you do get there early and get a good spot, don't plan on moving for about 10-12 hours. Eventually, we got so angry we pushed our way off the beach and left WAY before the Blue Angels showed up.

No offense, but I hate it when people camp at the beach. Some people do it allright, but some people claim so much space that it's ridiculous. I do agree about the hot sun and crowded places, but it's still worth it in my opinion. I just hate it that every year the show gets worse. The're slowly taking displays off the ground such as the F-16.

Heh, as far as our "campsite", it was the size of a beach towel for the two of us and a small cooler. Needless to say there were some people that came with police tape.

For anyone who will be in the Ft. Lauderdale area, I'll be at the show on Sunday. I'll be in the fenced off part, but I'll be parking at the Jet Center saturday afternoon if anyone wants an excuse to go out on the GA ramp, which becomes about 10% GA and 90% military

Well, talk about disappointing. The F-22 Raptor was a no-show (excuse given was thunderstorms at Tyndall Air Force Base). In addition, there was no B-52, F-117, B-2, A-10, F-14 demo, or AV-8B Harrier demo, all of which were advertised as performing today.
Now I know that not all military assets are guaranteed to show up due to possible needs elsewhere, but this was a bit ridiculous. I wondered why the KC-10 did about 12 passes, must have been filling in for all the no-shows.

Every year there are a few no shows...And I can vouge for the F-22, the wx up here has been [censored] all day. I didn't make it down to FLL cuz of it. (trying for sunday)

In general, since the Opa-Locka Airshow stopped, I think the airshows have gone way downhill (with the exception of the first two air and sea shows).

If you feel like taking a trip to N. FL, the Tyndall AFB airshow is bad ass. Not to mention you get to tour a ton of static displays.

I went to the show on Saturday and only got to see Oracle, the American Airlines flyover, and the T-Birds.

Every year the show seems to get worse, to the point that makes me wonder if they are slowly taking the show out. I've heard many times before that they have plans to cut the show sometime in the future due to budget problems. Every year something more gets taking away. Does anyone remember the F-16 that was sitting at Sunrise blvd.? Now that was cool.

Depends on what you like, though. If you like warbirds, then Tico in Titusville is always good. Part of the problem with military assets in airshows right now is that most of the pilots are elsewhere, and airshows (unless you're in the T-Birds or Blue Angels) come dead last in priority. The show at the beginning of the season in Punta Gorda is usually pretty good, and you can get pretty close to the action there, too.

Oh, and don't forget the AOPA Expo in Tampa this year. Stop by and say high to Ready2Fly.

Went on Sunday. Kinda cloudy which helped in keeping the temps bearable, but airshows are more enjoyable in "severe clear". Got there about 1:00pm so I don't know what I missed prior, but I did see the B-1B, F-15, Coast Guard Falcon/Helo rescue, Coast Guard C-130, KC-10, AA 777, and of course T-bird demos. There were also a couple of really good civilian aerobatic acts in between.

Third time seeing the show, first time as a civilian. The first two times the ship I was stationed on, the Bataan, was actually a part of the show acting as a backdrop in the ocean to all the air activities going on and as the "mothership" to the LCAC and Marine amphib assault demo. I had heard that she was going to be in the show again this year, but I guess they had left after Fleet Week as I didn't see her anchored offshore.

Although the other two Lauderdale shows I saw before were better, all in all it was a good show. Its not often that you get to see a triple-7 fly low and slow by the beach I would love to have had a transceiver, though, to listen in on Miami or FLL approach when some genius flew into the airshow "box" and interrupted the Thunderbird act for a couple of minutes.

Where you at the one (2002, I think) where an AA 727 did a low pass over the deck of the carrier? Aparently the captain flying it was ex-Navy, at least that's what the announcer was saying.....

No, would have loved to have seen that though. If it was this same time of year in 2002 then we would have been just getting back from OEF in Afghanistan.

I remember the first time we were at the show me and a select group of sailors from the various divisions aboard got to walk around the beach in our "Good Humor" working whites uniforms in a public/press information role while the rest of our buddies anchored offshore found out white hats worked just like Mardi Gras beads in causing the women in the numerous civilian boats that passed by to lose their tops.

That was the last time a crowd ever saw an AA 727 flying...The announcer said that the plane was heading straight to the desert after the show...So sad
