Default Hawaiian Airlines hiring

A guy I know just sent a resume out to Hawaiian, looks like their hiring. According to APC, they're going to be hiring 35 pilots in the fall and holding interviews in August.

Best of luck to all who apply. However, I bet with just 35 openings they are already essentially taken by people connected (networked) to current Hawaiian pilots.

My friend hears they've taken the posting down already because tons of ex-Aloha and ex-ATA guys were all over it. Not a whole lot of jobs to give out. Wow, that one went fast. Good luck to anyone on here who manages to find a way in.

A little off topic but I hear from everyone that's done them that the Hawaii to mainland flights are some of the most boring flights. I wonder what they would say if they had to make a career out of flying them. One guy said you just take off and fly direct to your destination and enjoy the nothingness including in the radio for the next 5 to 6 hours.

I sat in the jumpseat of a United 767 coming back from Kona to SFO. It wasn't the most exciting flight in the world, but it didn't seem to bad. HF radio calls every 30 minutes or so at fixes and a little bit of chatter on the local VHF freq about smooth rides.

Actually sounds pretty good to me. I was hoping to get a resume in to Hawiian when they opened the window, but I guess I missed it. Maybe next time.

I hear at Hawaiian the 717 is actually the "Senior" airplane, since all the guys with seniority want to live in Hawaii and do 30 minute cycles around the island all day rather than show up to LAS for a 2:30am departure or so back to HNL. I'd think spending a career doing several flights a day to the same 5 or 6 airports would get old fast, but maybe its just me.

Gotta correct myself here.

getting paid to fly, warm weather, good food, nice beaches, and girls in bikinis. Such a boring job.

Can't speak for all of Hawaii, but I can tell you HNL and LIH are over-rated.

Now Manila on the other hand, I wouldn't mind spending my career flying around the Philippine Islands...giggity.

Flying in the islands might get boring over time, but don't forget Hawaiian also flies to the US west coast, Manila, Tahiti, American Samoa, and Sydney. There are likely more destinations to come.

Until you've seen the style of interisland flying, you won't understand why guys love it. The visual approaches they do in the 717 are wild! Think flying into DCA on the river visual 19 except over the most beautiful landscape you can dream of (and no one to shoot you down).

One interisland captain I spoke to while jumpseating home recounted what his day was like:
  1. Have breakfast and drop the kids off at school in the morning
  2. Hit the beach (surf & paddle canoe)
  3. Report for a 1 pm show
  4. Last flight blocks in at 8:30 pm
  5. Pau hana! (done with work! <-- if you can even call it that)

I don't doubt it can be an amazing lifestyle/flying. However, only speaking for myself, almost everything has gotten boring in a way or another after doing it for a while.
