I spoke with the VP of OPS last week. He stated that the bases where there is usually openings ie. OAK, PDX are full, actually overstaffed due to some moving inside of the company. At this time all the classes were postponed. So until further Amflight is not hiring either.

Looks like I answered my own questions. Just posted on AMF web site...

Department: FLIGHT
Position: ALL PILOT POSITIONS
Date Posted: 5/13/2009
Base: ALL BASES
Description:

Great opportunities are on the horizon for professional pilots who land their talents at Ameriflight. Even though we are not actively recruiting pilots and will not be reviewing new applications until our hiring pool is depleted, individuals who have applied previously may continue to update their resumes via this website.

The 172 pilot is laughing at the pay rates. Sweet, one less application in front of mine.

He's going to jump straight from that 172 to a widebody. Why would he want to get in front of you?

Nobody gets in front of Boris...

If they do, he either just runs them over or blows by them while maintaining 250 to the marker!

well , let me tell you something , im not laughing at it but it doesnt make any sens to me , working 20 Yrs + for a company and not being able to hit the 100K mark a year .you can make a lot more money doing other simple jobs without all the stress and dilema .

do not underestimate a 172 pilot...before that i am an MD and i certainly didnt leave the hospital for a C172,what you said happens to be true , in a couple of months after finishing the IFR , Multi and Comm, i will be going for a JAA conversion and a 738 type rating. i was guaranteed a position before i even started training . so im not getting in front of anybody and i will leave that to you . knock yourself up and have a lot of fun

I would estimate that the average time that a person spends at Ameriflight would be between 2 and 5 years. The average upgrade from chieftan to 99 is usually 1 year and another year to upgrade to the metro. So 2 years and you're making mid fourties or greater (much greater in some cases).

I can tell you that I haven't had a problem paying bills and putting money away and I'm not exactly a penny pincher when it comes to budgeting. So it works for me!

Ameriflight breeds some of the best pilots out there. You get the time, the experience and the respect by working there. Come here and roll with the big dogs.

Unhappy Re: Ameriflight hiring?

Word from the DFW ACP is that they're hiring six guys for west coast runs in to the PA-31, they already have those dudes, and that class has been pushed back 3 weeks. No hiring in to the bigger stuff whatsoever.

I can tell you what flying for AMF will do for you. We had a kid here with his PPT and COMM who flew our Maintenance Support A/C but he wanted to go fly tankers. So he was told he needed to go out and get some experience and where did he go? AMF. Four years later with 500 hours PIC turbine time flying in crap weather on the left coast, he's now sitting right seat on a 180 day contract earning much more than 4k/month. I have two pilots here that both flew for AMF. Great experience and skills on both of them.

Don't always worry about the pay.

Buddy of mine just interviewed about a week or so ago. He got the green light for hire from the ACP, but was told by HR they are not sure what is going on, yet, in terms of contracts, hiring, need for crews. I'm guessing they'll just stick him in a hiring pool. Sylvia left, and I guess the receptionist is kind of taking over the HR/Hiring stuff for the time being.

Sucks, AMF was kind of my last hope for getting a flying job right about now... Oh well, I'll just keep looking and waiting...

There are ways to make a decent living at AMF though. It's hard work, but I'm doing pretty decent for a single 27 year old. There are people here younger than me that have more time and experience than I do and are doing even better!

O RLY? So youre one of those guys that thinks they can simply get thier commercial, buy a type rating, and then fly happily ever after at a "real" airline? Let us know how that works out for you...

(it's pretty common overseas. I trained a lot of pilots who had offers of employment the day after they passed their multi-engine instrument)
