Pack it into a request for information for any of their programs and they will pester you for several weeks by calling & per email! They must be contacting CFI's/CFI-I's only through the FAA database. IGI's surely don't get these postcards...

What do they pay their instructors these days? I did my IR and commercial training at a small flight school, but went to American Flyers in Addison, TX for CFI training in 1992. They wanted to put me to work, but at the time they were paying their instructors something like $5.00 per hour. I politely declined.

I was offered $2000/month back in September 07 after I finished the CFI Academy in Addison. I am not sure if that figure was based on how many billable hours I "could" make or if that is a straight salary. Retread, did you take a checkride with Smitty? He is still at down here!

Todd, my ride was with a fellow by the name of Ted Goble (I think) at Redbird. One vivid memory of my oral, was when I made the mistake of refering to that piece of paper, now plastic, that pilots carry granting their airman privilege's as a pilot license. He took great pleasure in chewing my ass up one side and down the other explaining that we do not have pilot licenses in the United States, we have pilot certificates. I've never made that mistake since.

It was my firts instructing job, and it didn't last. With what they charge (in a 172, $220 per hour dual, $190 solo), you'd figure they would pay their employees better than they do. As far as moving up, I was told if I worked real hard, I could go full time in 2 months. After three months of empty promises, and working 7 days a week, I found work elsewhere, flying nicer equipment, with better pay, and no suit and tie. My first three paychecks went to paying off the credit card just for work uniforms. I would stay away. I have meet the owners, and they are just a couple of Airline pilots turned bean counters. It's kinda like that ugly fat chick next door, she'll do in a pinch, but you woulden't want to be stuck with her.

My first flying job was with American Flyers back in the early 90's at $800/month in Haywierd Cal. They promis raises and then reneg, telling you you're lucky to have a job! No multi-engine planes either so no opportunity to log multi time.

The ups side was I learned a great deal about intrument flying as a result of teaching mostly Instrument pilots.

Overall, not a great company to work for. Their mind-set is that pilots are expendable/replaceable. And yes they charge A LOT for your time and pay you peanuts while Harrington lives a lifestyle of the rich and famous.

I hope this gives all of you some insight!

Corporate greed. The rich get richer while the poor get poorer.
