Turnover is high. Some positions/bases/assignments are like black holes, you can get in but can't get out. That's why they advertise for pilots regularly. A good number wash out of training - sounds simple but: make sure you're up to speed on basic IFR stuff if you go there. That cannot be emphasized enough.

| I called her at 8:00 am here in Hawaii, but this is about the 6th time I tried and it really was just luck that I got her. She was really nice though.

The deal with out stations at Amflight is that if there isn't somebody willing to fill the position, you're stuck there; you can't simply "bid out" of an out station. Ed's also spot on in that the wash out rate is incredibly high.

Is anyone familiar with Amflights policies/procedures on a) training washouts and b) quitting to get out of 'black hole outposts', and subsequent attempts at being hired?

B. If you quit because you were stuck in an out station nobody wanted, and attempted to get rehired I'd guess that you'd be shown the finger and the door, quickly. It would be obvious that you were attempting to subvert their system and they wouldn't be too happy about it, but that's just a guess.

JTrain, maybe you can answer my question. Would it be alright if I go to Ameriflight and turn in my resume in person? Or do they not like that? Thanks |

Man, I couldn't tell you, mostly because I've never seen anybody do that. I've had people send e-mails for me, and I've walked in resumes myself before when I worked there (which was the quickest way to get somebody a call), but I've never seen somebody roll up to the crystal palace (if they could even find the damned place) and hand in a resume. Are you far from Burbank? |

I live in Anaheim and I fly for an aerial mapping company, and I'm currently shooting Ventura County. I fly over kbur everyday. I could land there any day or drive in on a day off. I just wanted to get some feedback to see what you think. Thanks |

Ok, I have a few questions. Is OAK really that bad of a base? I live in PHX and would like to be back here sooner rather than later. If OAK based, is it hard to move out? even for a PHX out station? Also, does anyone know how often the PHX outstations open up? I'm gonna have to commute until I go crazy or can be back in the PHX area...if hired of coarse...

| Junior Member | She said that she wants to get me interviewed sometime next week, but has to check with the PHX CP first and would let me know. She said "it'd make sense to interview you out in PHX since it is closer." But who knows..

And you won't really be able to commute, or at least it'd be really, really, really hard. There's no union, no commuter policy, and commuting is not recommended. I've known people that have done it, but I think they were freakin' crazy. One guy lived in his truck in Burbank for a year while flying back to Salt Lake on the weekends.

It's doable on the weekends. SWA has a lot of flights to PHX, SLC etc so make sure you solid on the loads. OAK seems to be moving people up really quick. It is possible to move to PHX after being based in OAK, but expect it to run anywhere from 8 months - 1 year. Training is about 4 weeks. Someone said earlier to brush up on IFR and I would reiterate that. Spend 5-10 hours in a sim and that would help a ton. Good luck all. Oh and call sliva. jtrain, I dropped a resume in person.

Ya, I know I'd be crazy for commuting...but, I'm stuck in here for another year and a half (wife in nursing school). So if hired, and I go to OAK, I can bid for something else right? And I should get it if I'm the highest person bidding for it? Is there a flight time requirement to upgrade to the BE99 or just who ever bids it? I know it will be A LONG time to upgrade, I'm just curious. Oh, also, how often do you "bid"?

Amflight will move you if they need you, but if they don't want to move you (even if you're senior enough to hold the transfer) you won't be moved and they'll cite seniority. Put simply if the company needs you to move, and you're willing then you'll move. If the company needs you to move, and you're unwilling, then you'll move. The company has almost absolute control over what they can do to you. Now that being said, I've never seen them be THAT harsh to people, but understand they can do whatever they want to you. There's no contract, there's no union, and there's no way for you to assure that you'll get what you bid even if you can hold it.

Well, I put my stuff in for the FO position on the EMB-120 out of CVG. Pay is not great, but I need a job and stay current. I'm sure there are tons of my fellow furloughed Comair co-workers doing the same I uploaded my resume via the web site, because I kept getting a "page not found" after putting my flight times in the flight grid. Does anyone have an email address for Sylvia or whoever is collecting resume I can email it to? |

| Wear a suit an tie, roll up there and ask to talk to someone in the flight department or recruiting. If you are lucky enough to run into the right guy (whoever that is these days), things could go very well for you.
