Just out of curiousity is anyone coming to the AS job fair this Saturday? I'm going just out of interest, I gave up on Aviation for awhile and am going into the US Army Reserve. After I get out of summer camp and I get my finances straight I'm going to build up some multi and have another go this fall/winter. I'm just curious to test the waters, supposedly Mesaba will be there now too. I'm interested to see who shows up! Anyone else? |

That's something not heard much lately. "Job Fair". This is not just a token job fair, is it?

These are the companies that were signed up: • Aeroservice Aviation Center Hiring ground and simulator instructors • Airliners Magazine Opportunities for Airliners Contributing Writers and Photographers • American Eagle Hiring ATR and CRJ First Officers and Flight Attendants • Amerijet International Hiring B-727 First Officers & Flight Engineers • Arrow Cargo Hiring DC-8 and DC-10 First Officers and Flight Engineers • Centurion Air Cargo Hiring DC-10 First Officers & Flight Engineers • CTS Hiring A&P Mechanics • Dana Air Hiring MD-80 Captains & First Officers • Go Jet Hiring RJ First Officers • Gulfstream Training Academy First Officer Program And Official Training Partner for Continental Connection flying BE1900D. Fast Track to an airline pilot job – 3 month! • Mesaba Airlines Hiring First Officers • Miami Air Hiring B-737-800 First Officers • North American Airlines Hiring First Officers • Paramount Aviation Resources Hiring Captains & First Officers • STS Services Hiring A&P Mechanics • UFly Airlines Hiring MD-80 Captains, First Officers and Flight Attendants So maybe it's not necessarily a token fair. Sounds about like what it is out there right now.

I went late, so I didn't see everyone, in fact I didn't bring a resume I just wanted to test the waters. I'm going to basic soon for the Army Reserve but will want to jump back in once I finish training in November. Mesaba- not hiring, apparantly they got screwed and 10 of their 15 CRJ-900s (under Deltas infinite wisdom) were sent to ASA. The result, all hiring classes canceled and 60+ pilots in the pool swimming. The woman there was very friendly however and still took paper resumes from everyone. Am Eagle- Taking resumes but not hiring until summer 1000TT and 100ME Ufly- formerly known as Falcon Air Express? who went bankrupt, was sold and now restructuring. Miami based company with one airplane hiring for PHX. Pilots must pay for type in MD80 and not hiring, requirements 1000 hrs. for FO. Despite the tough hiring situation the Chief Pilot? (i think he was) was positive and said the anticipated more growth and 2+ more planes by this Fall. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is the current largest customer. 1000TT minimums GoJet- caught them just as they were leaving, also very friendly and still growing, looking to hire approximately 100 pilots in 2009. Minimums 50ME and 500TT Miami Air International- also hiring, not sure how many. Representative was very friendly. Currently have 8 737s, including a few -800s for a worldwide charter operation. Fly many sport teams, Fortune 500 companies and government departments. I'd love to work for them but I'm short on flight time, 2500TT with 1000 Commercial jet no type rating required. I didn't see Colgan (though I may have missed them I came late). Also there was Gulfstream International. There was a big line in front of Amerijet so I didn't wait for them. They was also a huge line in front of Capeair as well (surprisingly). Danajet the Nigerian company was there as well, I've talked to them before and I'd love to work there but my military commitment prevents me from really going overseas. Hope this helps if anyone can fill in the gaps I'd appreciate it! |

I'm shocked to see the Gojet is still hiring people with low hours. I thought almost everyone hiring mins would be higher than that. Weird world we're living in.

| Agent Smith | They, most likely, have no choice.

I read somewhere on a gouge that they were getting massive amount of resumes from pilots. So that why I was confused.

Massive amounts of resumes does not equal low minimums. Low minimums = acceptance of higher risk candidates. Higher risk candidates (for the most part) equals lower experience. The day you see one of the "higher echelon" jobs advertising low minimums is one thing, but that company is nowhere near 'higher echelon' at all.

Cool all I need is 40 hours of multi to apply, but I don't graduate college till September. Curse whoever thought I need 16 years of education.

I heard there are a lot of furloughed guys with tons of flight time and experience going to GoJets. Personally, I'd rather be unemployed than for GJ.

All in all a rather uneventful day. I don't recal seeing colgan there either. The woman working the eagle room gave out business cards to some people and mentioned that with all the pilots handing in resumes that have priof 121 experience it will be very difficult to get in without it. Ladies working gojet and mesaba were very nice and you can tell liked working for the companys they represented.

Hi! Colgan was not there. MIA Air does NOT need a type rating-they were interested in me without one-I'm sure it helps. Centurion was there and told me hiring soon-said they'd be in touch. They told other guys (I assume low time) that they were not hiring. Cape Air is hiring-just ran a small class this week. He said it was BY FAR the most # of resumes and qualified guys he'd seen. I did NOT go by Amerijet, as the line was so long, and I already fly and old pos jet-I need to get experience on something more modern-wanted to apply at Etihad, but found out need 1000 glass jet-I have 0. Arrow is running classes, but heard need DC-9, DC-10 or 757 experience-I was hopeful, but now not so much. GoJets said they were only looking for highly qualified FOs who could upgrade to captain right away-they were hiring street captains a while ago-heard they had a TON of resumes. Just found out Lynx Aviation (Frontier feeder) is hiring, but you do need some quals, like 500 PIC, according to the website. cliff GRB |
