Hageland mins have not a lot to do with hours, but availability of aircraft. Most guys spend a winter or two in the 207 and have to pass the drinking buddy test (and the ability to stay sane in the Bethel pilot house, not an easy thing). Grant is definitely a bit more low key in a lot of regards. You telling me that a 1200 hour guy would have issues going between ANC and HOM all day?

A 1200TT guy wouldn't have issues with ANC and HOM, but he would have issues with BET and Emmonak, Bet and Sain't Maries, BET and you get the picture.

That said, I'd rather fly the Van into any of the 'hard' ones rather than the 207, but I've got way more time in the Van than the 207 as well.

| Its not the runways, its the icing and the associated judgement calls that come with flying IFR in the van (bootleg or otherwise) add into that a culture of "getter'dun" and you can see how it might get tough (though Grant is pretty good on the culture) There's a reason that no one is flying the van in alaska with IFR 135 mins, and insurance ain't the only reason.

If your future goal was to fly a van for a fedex feeder such as MAC or Empire would it be wise to get your single engine ATP. I mean would it give you a edge up over applicants who dont have it.

I thought this was a thread about the "original" Empire Airlines (1976-1985)! My second airline job was with Piedmont (the "original" Piedmont) and my first base was in Syracuse flying the F-28 with all of the old Empire captains. Interesting group, interesting times! Kevin

| They told me to reapply when I had the requisite time, and that there would probably be openings.

Piedmont had the "Florida Shuttle" then - we had 4 day trips where the first leg would be CLT-"somewhere-in Florida" and then we would spend the next 4 days never leaving the state of Florida until the last leg back to CLT. Those were some great trips! Kevin
