Description:
Summary

This position serves two primary functions: Will provide overall strategic support for the group Vice President, and will perform a technical leadership role within the aviation industry. Will require the ability to deal with all functions unique to the AMIS (Aeronautical & Marine Information Solutions) organization, to include a business unit, a service unit and a production unit. In addition, will be heavily involved in top-priority industry activities, and will be required to keep top management aware of issues to be considered in corporate strategic planning. Subject to prior coordination with business and development units, will be empowered to make decisions within industry working groups which can have a significant impact on the company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Provides informational briefings regarding AMIS activities in small and large group settings, as well as through written means including the company intranet, internet, and various distribution methods.
• Organizes and prepares material for senior-leadership team and staff meetings.
• Understands the interrelationship of various AMIS elements and assists with smooth coordination between the functions.
• Establishes and maintains the role of a well-respected industry expert with respect to navigation and the infrastructure that supports it.
• Maintains technical expertise in chart, database, flight planning and operational issues.
• Remains abreast of emerging navigation technologies, and reports same information to the business and development units.
• Maintains currency in the airspace system using glass-cockpit type avionics.
• Drives industry agendas in a manner that supports industry, while meeting the company's needs.
• Thoroughly analyzes and understands the overall financials of the organization to aid in making sound business recommendations.
• Finds creative solutions to financial, technical and process issues.
• Evaluates and prioritizes industry activities to ensure emphasis is placed appropriately.
• Prepares and presents technical papers, and publishes articles which enhance industry knowledge and/or increases understanding of our capabilities.
• Presents informational seminars to customers at industry events, e.g. Oshkosh, in an engaging and interesting manner.
• Remains abreast of industry trends, and takes active steps to influence activities in a direction that serves both the company and the industry.
• Effectively and efficiently communicates with internal colleagues regarding information learned in industry activities.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in a business or aviation discipline, or the equivalent combination of training, proficiency and experience. Experience in business operations or financial analysis. 15 plus years' experience in the aviation industry as a pilot and/or participant in industry activities. Extensive experience flying with and instructing on modern, glass-cockpit avionics highly desired.

• A successful track record of strong financial analysis, problem solving, decision making is required.
• Demonstrated effective and diplomatic oral and written communication skills, including making scheduled/unscheduled presentations before diverse domestic and international aviation groups, executive management, and external clients.
• Demonstrated experience using diplomacy to negotiate, to resolve difficult issues.
• Ability to build strong relationships at high levels both internally and externally.
• Extensive experience in making presentations and writing technical papers or informative articles highly desired.
• An in-depth technical knowledge of chart, database, flight planning and operational issues, preferably from both a Commercial and Business/General Aviation perspective is essential.
• Certified Flight Instructor with Instrument rating is required.
• Airline Transport Pilot certification is desired.
• Must be willing to remain current with use of modern navigation equipment.
