Just curious...how do you know 1500 hr min. will be implemented by the government? Is this from a reliable source?

specifically section 10....requires an ATP to be a member of a 121 flightcrew.

This is good

Well, that is speculation based on my interaction with my local FISDO officials. I can't guarantee that this will be the case, but since that is out there, I would believe that it would be in every pilots benefit to make sure they have as many hours as possible so just in case that rule comes out, you are alright to fly.

Best suggestion is flight instructing, and if there are other time-building options that do not require you to pay, explore those before going to any paid method.

Well, it's just what I heard. I'm not claiming it to be fact or something that is guaranteed to happen. I'm just curious...why are people so aggressive and attacking of every company/individual on this forum? When I meet people, or talk to people in person I never have heard so much trash talking or slanderous comments.... maybe if people didn't hide behind a pseudo name and were forced to use their real name to post, they wouldn't act the same.

Show some class.

Theresa, is in fact, my real name. I am just getting aggrivated with you contradicting yourself on different threads.

First telling us to deploy low time pilots to get a type rating... Then talking about how we should instruct to build our time. Some of us ARE already doing everything we can to build time, and not taking "an easy route".

Theresa, I don't think you have carefully read my post. Let me explain clearly my stance:

One should build their time via flight instructing. That is a great way to build your time and learn a lot. I came that route before landing a job on a Challenger 604 corporate Jet. However, during these tough economic times the Flight instructing and other time building jobs are scarce. A good pay to fly program allows somebody to gain 500 hours on a big jet, and be much more marketable quicker.

Now, both routes have their pros/cons and I think whichever route you take you can be successful. Furthermore, I don't operate a PTF program and am merely investigating the possibilities of starting one to help people in the industry. A program that would advance a person in their career almost a decade, and allow them to be successful at a younger age.

We all have certain views/stances on different ways in which to advance your career in Aviation. I really am baffled at the amount of people who just don't like self-sponsored type ratings/placement programs. Many countries only go this route. Take India, for example. the only way to land a job as an FO is to have 320/737 experience or pay for your own type rating. You have to have an Indian license, so where are people in India to get experience on on a 737/320? They gotta buy a type rating, and apply to an airline.

I hope this clears up some of the issues you had with any of my posts, as I think I was pretty clearly in supporting both methods to advance your career.

If people choose to fly in India, then that's what they choose to do. What I am mostly bothered with was just the fact that your two separate posts completely were contradicting one another... Not to mention the fact that you are telling people here to instruct to build their time... Which doesn't help your case in creating this accelerated program.

I'm just confused as to why you would be this way, I guess. I'm not against, nor am I for your program. I just don't like conflicting information.

Theresa, I support both methods. Like i said, I came up as a flight instructor. How am I contradicting myself by saying both are effective ways?

It just seems weird to me that you're trying to put your idea into motion, and yet you're telling people to instruct instead. That's the conflicting information to me. Oh well. Instructing isn't for everyone. There are other ways to build time, which was why this thread was created. Fish spotting, banner towing, jump piloting, etc. I know that my over 400DG is really never going to grow simply because my heart isn't into teaching anymore... And I have found another way to build my time, thankfully.

Not to hijack this thread, but my main goal right now is to try to get in somewhere instructing. If I can do this and get up to around 1500-2000TT, would that be considered paying my dues?

What defines this philosophy?

I think as long as you work hard and show people you are committed to doing whatever it takes, regardless of how many hours or what you are flying, that is paying your dues. You can pay your dues cleaning an aircraft, flight instructing, or even flying a jet. It's just what your mentality is and your attitude towards the operation and your career. If you take things seriously, and put it above everything else in your life (minus maybe your health/family), you will see a reward.

Paying your dues isn't about getting your TT up to a certain point, there is more to it than that. You can't expect that once you get a certain amount of time, people should or will hand you a better job. To answer your question, no, it likely wouldn't be, at least not in today's market. I'm there now, and as much as I want to move on, I'm planning on having to do it for another year, at least, unfortunately. I think a lot of it depends on the market, 2-3yrs ago, someone who instructed for 6mos had "paid their dues" (debatable...) for that market. Today, it might be 2-3yrs of instructing, or more before you can move on.

Please, PLEASE do not instruct to put hours in your logbook. You would be wasting your student's, and your own time.
