So talking with the "man" today at training day, here is the current state of affairs according to him. Apparently, on the overhire thing, 144 total people were being considered to be hired. Of those, 50 were AIAs, the rest being AEO/MIA/MEO/Admin/etc. Of the 144, there were 38 who were "fully vetted", ie- they had BIs in the works or complete and also were slotted and informed of where they were going to be assigned. Of those 38, 28 will likely be picked up early in the fiscal year......likely Oct/Nov timeframe. The remaining ones are in an unknown status for now, but there's no budget money for hiring, nor is there money for replacing those lost, for example, due to retirements. Too many were hired for now, and the budget needs to catch up. Also, by Congressional mandate, the majority of those hired must be sent to the northern border branches. Lousy info I know, but there's so much in flux. There's next to no $$ available for facilities improvements, and many Branch's have far outgrown their facilities. Many of the former BP branch's have facilities that are lousy conditions-wise. So money is very short for personnel hiring, for infrastructure; but it's been allocated already for M-model H-60s that we really don't need, since A/L models would suffice. But, that's the nature of government, I guess. Hope that helps.

Man, this is making me nervous as heck, wondering which group I'm in and whether I have a job or not!!! What doesn't make sense is why are they calling guys from the posting that closed 5/15 and telling them that they'll be referred to the hiring center for interviews on 7/3 if they aren't gonna have jobs for 10 they've already hired and cleared? |

Major alphabet soup law enforcement agency: - Three years from application to phone call for interview - Lost application completely thereafter - Applied to two additional vacancies, both of which closed without any hiring - Reapplied, 1 year wait - Final job offer AFTER I took another position When it comes to the G, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see FLETC until late 2010 at the earliest. STILL HAPPY TO BE HERE, THOUGH! J. | |

Hey Guys, I'm new to JetCareers.com, but I have been reading the posts. I just recieved my NOR (Score: 88), and am stoked to continue the path of becoming a AIA. But from the sounds of it, it will take a long time due to budget cuts and what not. I'm in no rush, except for my possibility of getting furloughed in January 2010. I was a Police Explorer for 3 years and thats about the extent of my LE experience. I fly the Dash-8 200 out of Denver and was wondering if anybody knows: Which base flies the Dash? I put in for Tampa, San Diego, and Spokane. Any suggestions on preping for the interview? If I get one. Thanks Travis |

Study up on 14 CFR 91 and instrument procedures for the flight portion of the interview. And just be yourself for the personal portion of the interview.

Thanks MikeD, Do you guys do "ride-a-longs"? Does the AIA position require un-corrected 20/20 vision? I wear contact and am considering PRK or Lasik. I know the military likes PRK, I'm not sure what CBP digs. Last edited by TKlein91; July 5th, 2009 at 19:04. |

| Just have to be able to have a FAA 2nd class medical. Ride-alongs normally are for other LE agencies or military, not generally civilian, on normal missions.

Here's the latest from HR in DC. There are 37 guys with COE's with their BI's complete, ready to EOD, 8 more on active duty not ready, 12 with COE's BI's pending (me in that group), and 18 with BI's in "delayed" status (something requiring further investigation). Karen said that after October she anticipated 50 slots being open. She's putting us in order from the date we're ready. When a spot opens, she'll go to the next guy on the list and make the offer. Only variable is that some slots are FW or RW. She didn't know where the slots would be, but said she expects more RW than FW, and that there were more FW guys on the list than RW guys. Aftet the 50, she doesn't know when (or if) more spots will open. But she said she hoped she'd be able to place us all. You have 12 months from the day your BI clears to EOD. If not, you have to reapply and start all over. Uhg, makes me nervous to get this far, think I have a job, and now not know!!! |

Hate to bear bad news, but there really isn't much for our fixed-wing only guys to do here. The PA-18s are likely going away soon since they really have no mission anymore and they don't want to put $$$ towards it. The Citations don't do much, nor do the C-12/B-200s. Helo is the mission, esp in the southwest. At my branch, the FW guys maybe fly once every week or two if they're lucky, and are normally shanghai-ed into the UAV program. That's a proverbial roach motel.......you check in, but you never check out. There really is little for them to do here. The BL is, FW-only guys are pretty useless to us in these days. The times have changed from before where there was a heavier FW mission.

Well, perhaps I should take a chunk of change and get some RW ratings cause my app is probably way at the bottom of the stack, if its in "the" stack.

Did you get a "Refered" in a email? Are you being "refered" for a interview?

My question is, do people usually get an interview after receiving this notice?

From what I've read, it sounds like it took an NOR of 99 or better to get referred this time. Not sure if all those referred will get called in to interview? Time will tell... Good luck, still not sure why they're interviewing more if they're not sure if they have positions for those of us already offered jobs???

You think it would be worth getting RW qualified? Anything beyond a RW comm cert required to be condsidered dual qualified? Weighing the cost vs the benefit of knowing I'd qualify for any opening..... |
