Looks about right, the BI would start after the COE

It would be a lot easier for you if you got it together now, rather than when you actually need it. Just find a SF-86 security questionnaire on the web and gather the information it asks for.

As far as the "next fiscal year" business . . . is that this October (2009)? Is that when I can start getting excited again about hoping for a package in the mail?

What would be a realistic time frame to expect between now and when I'd start working if I got my first response in Oct. 2009? (I've already received my NOR)

Is there anyone to contact at the agency for more info or just what I hear here?

Thanks, Les

It's happened my entire career, just about June/July all hiring, paid moves and anything that requires large expenditures, comes to a screeching halt.

Late October early November things start loosening up again.... as long as Congress gets it together and passes the particular spending bill you fall under.

MY BI is moving full steam as well. Trying to find two Capts ive flown with who would be in EWR on the same day was a challenge. But I figured it out. Im definitely ready to move on as well. If nothing more than the bump in pay and QOL....living in DC on a FO salary and commuting has me pulling my hair out.

Has your investigator directly spoken with either of you? I have multiple investigators (multiple regions of the country), and no one has spoken to me directly. I keep hearing that my references are getting called, but nothing for me yet.

Yeah, I've spoken with two of them on the phone. One wanted contact information for my ex-wife to interview her (good luck with that one, buddy), the other scheduled my in-person for Monday.

If you've just gotten an NOR, the next step would be to hope your NOR is competitive enough to get a call to schedule an interview. Then you get yourself to OKC, at your expense, to interview, wait 1-3 months for conditional offers (COE) to be sent out. That's when they start Background Investgations (where I'm at now). Upon completion of your BI, you wait around again for a call officially offering you a job at a hard-and-fast location, along with the date you EOD (enter on duty) and the day you start training at FLETC. Whole process takes a year or more from the day you apply till you start.

Word I'm hearing for interview calls for the posting that closed 5/15 is to expect calls to go out in the next few weeks. I'd check out the bulletin boards on www.aptap.org for more info.

Good luck,

I finished my interview with the BI investigator. Rumour is they have been poking around EWR and around the flight school where I worked. Hoping for the best.

If anyone is interested in AEO, drop me a line. I just started last month (FLETC now)...

Air & Marine is a great gig. Everyone I've met so far has been great!

There are several in my FLETC class who have yet to even talk to a BI, but some guys (mostly FAM crossovers) who are already done. Just never know. It's not unheard of to graduate, get your creds, then hand them right back after graduation because of an open BI from what we've been told.

Current class (I know, I keep going back to that but it gives a good snapshot of the current hiring) is mostly boat guys. Of the AIAs, only 1 is civ only (CRJ captain), 1 reserve Viper driver, 1 Apache, 3 Blackhawk (1 CG, 1 Army, 1 AF). 2 AEOs (both Navy AWs, one a former FAM current P-3 Orion reservist, one [me] former active S-3 Viking, local LEO, low time CIME). The # of boat guys has been increasing in the past few classes.

Latest word here is 2 more classes (24 slots per) this FY.
