Posted this a couple of times in the past, but I want to continue to remind people that you can work in SoCal as a cfi and make $50 an hour. We currently have many students, some local as well as Indian and Korean. If you need any other info just ask.

Hey lisboa, I am about to take my CFI and II checkrides and will be looking for work in the Los Angeles area afterwards. $50/hr sounds pretty good - any catches? I live within 45 minutes of KLGB, so I would be interested in knowing more information. Which flight school is this? Are the CFIs independent contractors, or employed by the flight school. How many aircraft/students? How is the maintenance? I guess I should mention that I'll have about 285 TT when I get my certificates; are they looking for more than that? Thanks for your help. I work at Long Beach Flight Club. I work as a free lance instructor, as do all instructors. We have nineteen planes, they are mostly late 70's early 80's but maintenance is good. As far as hours go; last year the least hours I billed in one month was about 90 and the most was about 120. We have two seminoles for multi flying. I choose only to work with Indian students, each one needs 50 hours of multi. My goal this year is to take eight of them from zero to comm multi. As far as what requirements you need to work here, walk in with a cfi ticket and schedule a flight with the chief cfi. If it goes well he will say "good luck" and you will be able to work as much or as little as you want. Building clientel isn't hard, there is an operations manager that sets up all the foreign students. If you want to work she will keep you busy with a never ending line of Indian students. If you dont want to work with Indians than you have to do it the old way of meet and greet at the front door. We have about 15 instructors and all of them are very busy . |

Not to jack the thread but I am looking for CFIs for our flight school at Whiteman airport (KWHP). The airport is between Burbank and Van Nuys. It is called Vista Air, pay is $30.00/hr for PPL instructors and it goes up for more advanced licenses.
