Hi EnnTea,
Well glad to hear you are getting to the airlines, there have been a lot of changes especially with pay and upper management. Standz class is a whole lot different now, you are hired day one, you are paid for the time you are in class $500. and we spend two days on prep work to help get ready for the tests and flight. We are not as strict with the testing or the flights, we still hold pilots to a standard, but we look at the big picture...we want to see what type of pilot they are and what type of instructor they will become...
good luck

Soon after I left, most of the people I didn't like got fired and now they've raised the pay.

The city of Sanford is a dump, but the airport is pretty nice (4 runways, all good length and condition, two tower frequencies so it's never too congested) as are DCA's facilities. If I wasn't closing in on an airline I'd consider applying.

Do they still do that thing where if you do one thing wrong on the Standz flight, or fail to memorize the emergency checklist down to the capitalization, or score lower than a 90% on one of seven standz written tests, you're out of a job?

Yeah, DCA used to be insanely strict on that. I remember they changed it to where if you did something wrong on the standz flight you got remedial training and tried it again, but then they changed it back to one mistake and you're gone.

I always found it kind of funny that one of the instructors that I was pretty good friends with got Instructor of the Month 2 times in a row...but wouldn't have even had a job there if she had gone through when it was a one strike you're out policy. Glad to see you guys figured out that wasn't the best way to go about it.

If anybody is curious, I'd recommend sending in a resume for DCA if you're looking for a job. They've always been a good school and now they're treating their employees well. Wish I had stuck around.

Sorry about the delay in answering, the standz class takes just about 1.5 weeks...some of those days are 1/2 days though...

401K questions...How long before eligible? Also, what is the match and company that manages the plan.

Housing question....Is there available rental close to the campus? Is company provided housing an option?

Thanks,

Hi Lomax,
Is there still a need for instructors at the BCC in Broward County, FL? Are the terms the same?
Thanks!

Lomax, what was the deal with DCA not renewing the contract with bridgewater state? I was working there as an instructor and loved it. I'd reccommend anyone looking for a legit CFI job to goto DCA.

Sorry I had the weekend off,
here we go

1. I do not know why we did not renew with bridgewater, that decision was made well above my paygrade...and thanks for the recomendation.

2.Yes we have a need for Broward and if you contact me I can answer all other qs.

3. 401k, I am not 100% sure, but we have the open enrollement for it every few months...I would hate to give you wrong info on the 401K. so if you like contact me via email, and I will get the info from my HR people, they know that stuff forward and back.

4. Holyshirt, if you like contact me via email and we can start the resume process before you graduate.

Thanks
Paul

Is FL your only location? Does DCA hire part-timers?

Hi

Sorry...again. I read about the following terms:
$14.00 per billable hour, after 70 billable hours in a pay period the rate increases to $25.00 per billable hour in that pay period

What is the pay period?
How many hours does a typical CFI bill in a pay period?

I´m still waiting for my CFII checkride date.

I think my question is how much have things changed there...what people have changed there and/or how are things "different" from *last time*? When Mr Raker tried to bite the hand that feeds, everyone there was *new* at that time as well. How do we know that if we allow DCA back on site, that we won't get bit again for letting people speak about the flight school for themselves (good, bad, ugly)? I'd like to give you the benefit of a doubt but my risk tolerance for your flight school is quite high, i'm afraid.
Just wanted to chime in with my 2 cents. I have been training at DCA Sanford for the last year. I am finishing up my CFI but will not be staying on to instruct. (many reasons for this mostly family related). I have started to notice in the last 2-3 months a lot of positive changes taking place. As in anything it has taken a while, but I can honestly say the new managemt team seems to have taken t many of the student/instructor complaints and began working on ways to improve. To summerize: Is it perfect? No. Is it moving in the right direction? Yes.

Thanks for that comment, the guys in management are working very hard to make sure that not only the instructors and support staff are happy, but the students as well...

Having your CFII is ideal, either getting it before or after you start with us....I would recomend getting it first and then coming here...little easier.
