Hello All` As some of you may already know I am the new manager of operations in my flight school. It is called Vista Air based out of Whiteman airport. We are looking for too full time instructors and we need them NOW!! You work as a contract flight instructor at the flight school. CFI rates are $30.00/hr for ground school and flight lessons, the instructor keeps all the money. We don't have multi yet but it is in plans for future. The flight school has been wround for about 25 years, we are moving to our brand new location by summer which is much larger. The planes are all Cessna 172s and 182. We have a glass cockpit 172 as well. They are all very well maintained by the mechanics of our parent company Vista Aviation. If anyone is interested please PM me so I can give you my email address for you guys to send in your resumes. The owner interviews all the instructors, He or one of the other instructors actually go up with the interviewes to test their skills. It is an absolutely fun job in a very cozy and chill enviornment so let me know if you guys are interested. |

Does Dusty still own the place? Vista always had some nice equipment. BTW, for the area, the CFI pay should be more like $40-$50/hr, especially for independent contractors.

Yes Dusty still owns the place, Well I don't set the rates the owners do. I don't think it is that ireasonable, it is still pretty good. Remember that Vista is also one of the most affordable places for flight training in the area and the maintainance is spotless.

WTF! Hate to say I pay 45 to my instructor and that is the grandfathered rate. He's good so I'll stick with him. Wish I lived out in BFE to afford the less expensive. What is the plane rate? Wet/Dry? |

The plane rates range from 90.50 (Block account) or 96.50 (Regular rate) to 147 (Block rate) or 158 (Regular rate). The fleet of nine aircraft available for training are all Cessna 172s and one 182. The rates are all wet rates and you get reimbursed for fuel put in elsewhere. We have both carbureted and fuel-injected planes, one glass cockpit and one 172RG (retractable gear). All planes are maintained by the maintainance guys at the mother company (Vista aviation). The owner is really strict about keeping the planes well maintained. All our current instructors have on average 2000 hrs of flight time. The airport itself has an ATC tower from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and fuel is available 24hrs a day 365 days a year. You guys are always more than welcome to drop by with a resume put together and talk to me or the owner. Even if you are interested in flight training come by or call and I can schedulr a discovery flight with one of our instructors. The address is: Whiteman airport Vista Air 12653 Osborne street Pacoima, CA, 91331 Tel#: (818)896-5224 |

I just wanted to say that I am happy to see that your flight school pays their CFIs a professional wage. I am tired of seeing CFIs getting paid 12-20 an hour to bust their balls day in and out. $30/hr should be minimum in my opinion. I hope that other schools might follow your example and start paying their CFIs what they deserve.

I just had the Apache over at Hesperia, L26. Nice little airport. Great restaruant. Gas under $4. They got a 152 that is pretty cheap. I'm guessing around $60. The CFI left to fly Predators. That kinda made me laugh. Anyhow, they want me to instruct there on the weekends in my free time. I kinda blew it off, but I guess I'd be willing to do it under the right situation. If there are any free lance CFI's in the SoCal area interested spending some time at Hesperia, they need somebody, and I might be willing to help out.
