Default FO @ Emirates

Emirates Airline is a dynamic global carrier rapidly expanding its fleet from 111 (today) to over 350 wide-bodied aircraft. With Airbus A330/340 and Boeing 777 aircraft and the first of 58 A380’s arriving in 2008 the Airline is offering secure and rewarding career opportunities to First Officers wishing to rapidly progress their careers to Captain.

In addition to competitive tax free salaries, flying pay and profit share opportunities, Dubai offers one of the world’s most attractive lifestyle options for families and individuals. Emirates’ comprehensive benefits package includes the provision of quality accommodation and cost of utilities e.g. water, electricity, gas and maintenance, comprehensive medical and life insurance coverage (self and family), generous staff travel concessions extending to wider family members, an interest free car loan, educational support for children (studying in Dubai or Overseas) and excellent end of service (provident scheme) benefits.

On joining, candidates must have a minimum of 4000 total and 2000 multi-engine jet hours however, candidates a year away from achieving both these requirements may still apply. If invited to explore a future career with Emirates living in Dubai then all travel costs and accommodation will be covered.

Thanks for posting this, unfortunally I'm 3 years away from the requirements otherwise I'd be on it in a heartbeat. (and I still have to convince the spouse that the move would be a good idea for the overall career - i've got her ok about China overall, Dubai is a bigger stretch)

Huh.....why's that? I would venture to say that Dubai is far more modern, 'Western' than China and that was based on 1992 observations. I would imagine that is even moreso now.

I've spent a lot of time in China and Taiwan, speak semi-fluent Mandarin and currently live in Dubai. I can say without a doubt that your wife would be happier in Dubai.

I could probably look this up, but here's a question. Do women have to follow any sort of dress codes/social norms typical of other Arab countries? I remember I had a friend in elementary school who moved to Oman. His mom wasn't allowed to wear shorts in public.

Very good question. Are women second or third class citizens there?

Further, are women allowed to drive, and if something happens, like they get pulled over for speeding, are they subject to harsher punishment than men? Are freedoms such as gun ownership and free speech respected or not tolerated? Can you be alone at 3 AM coming home from a trip, or do you need bodyguards, ala. LAX ghetto?

You don't need jet time for eva or china airlines. Although I think for eva you need jet to fly pax.

We just had a Lear captain get on with Emirates. Lear 35 -> A330.

Typhoonpilot is spot on.
Although China is modernizing at lighting speed, the culture & general environment is pretty much local-centric. Dubai is very much an oasis for expats where communities/support structure are well established & a critical mass of western families reside in a reasonable radius. Your wife will appreciate that.

Hi,
Quick question. Does Emirates have a specific preference for the 2000 jet time (Passenger jet or Business jet)?

Also, what about PIC time?

Definitively it is passenger jet. I haven't heard of any pure corporate pilots hired to date. Those who are getting hired out of corporate have had previous airline experience.

Our captain was a freight dawg. Lear 35s were his biggest plane.

Would be nice if the US airlines offered such generous compensation. :-P The tax free pay and zero interest car loan sounds great! How does the non-rev pass system work out? Could I bring my wife with me on most of my trips or do they have limitations on that?
