Yes, that is fun. If anyone wants info on flying smokejumpers, let me know. It is good flying in a fun, challenging environment. The smokejumpers for the most part are among the best people you will ever get the chance to work with. The "rounds" (Forest Service jumpers) jump at 1500' agl, while the "squares" (BLM) jump at 3000' agl. That's their fun. The jumpship pilot's fun is dropping para-cargo out at 150-200'agl. As "fun" as it is, it takes good skills and a keen ability to maintain situational awareness in an often busy, smokey environment.

It's good to see that they are hiring in to the government program. There has been concern in the fire aviation community that all the jumpships could be privatized.

BTW, when you see one taxiing down the ramp, a turbinized Doug doesn't look/sound right!

Actually, where did you see the posting? I didn't see it on USAJOBS or Avue. The usual posting is for a GS-11 which is 1500TT.

The -3 is by far the most fun I have ever had flying. You really do have to man-handle it compared to all other airplanes I have flown. I remember being sore after the first few flights!!

I would love to fly a turbine conversion but I would also just love to get back into the old R-1830 model!!!!!!
