There is a need for an independent CFI or two (or three), at 5T6. You set your own rates, but the going pay rate is $35-$40/hour for flight and ground. There are NO full time instructors at this time; there is a long waiting list of students. You can charge as much as $50/hour for specialty training if you have the background (G1000, tail wheel, specific aircraft such as Mooneys, etc.). Down sides- you are an independent contractor so: 1. You take care of your own insurance- flight and health. 2. No students, no pay. 3. You take care of your own relocation. 4. No multi-engine training at this time. 5. It gets a little warm in the summer. Good side- 1. Descent pay. Do the math... bill 6 hours/day, 5 days per week. Take 5 weeks off for vacation, low student load period, weather (not much of that here). 6*35/40*5*48... you still can make $50,000-58,000. Many of the students here pay cash. Of course, I report ALL of my cash income. ![]() 2. Low cost of living area. Figure $700-$500/month for a nice apartment. 3. If you live on the Texas side, no state income tax. 4. Lots of students. 5. You set your own hours. Need the weekend off? Take it. 6. If you like the outdoors, lots to do. 7. You'll learn about operating in a high DA environment. http://bluefeatheraero.com/ |

I'm really surprised that there are no post for this thread. I think its a very good deal. I used to live in elp and it really is a cool place. And yes there's a whole lot to do if your an out-doorsey kind of person. The pay sounds good, get the days off you want, great weather for the most part. If I was wanting to build time I'd go back to elp in a heart beat. |

Just to update. There is a very good chance a multi-engine will be on property in the near future (60-90 days). I'd rate it as 80%. Anyone coming down with an MEI would most definately get multi-engine time as most of the CFIs here either: 1. Don't have an MEI. 2. Don't care to be terrorized by a low time ME student any more. ELP is not the end of the aviation world. There are a number of 135 and 125 operations here that would hire a good pilot; you also make contacts with people who might hire you to fly part 91 for them. Some of these jobs are lifetime jobs, not stepping stones. |

Yeah, it is a nice place. Beautiful country, lots of neat airplanes in the area. Kind of hot in the summer though. Still no ME. The owners are looking at a few, but also waiting to see if some potential buyers will take the plunge and lease it back to the school. Down to one full time instructor and 2-4 part time instructors. |

Are you guys still looking for part time instructors? How much tailwheel demand do you guys have? I'm a 1000 hr dual diven instructor that basically has way too much time on his hands due to his current flying gig and would be interested in this on the side. =Jason- |

| PM me if you can. Depending on when you are available, I may be able to line up some work for you. Let me know how much tail wheel time you have as well as instructor time. I heard SW furloughed some in ELP?

I stopped in at the FBO while bringing a plane home from FL. They have a great setup. Nice lounge, briefing area, weather, etc. Really a good operation, and the dispatcher fellas were nice. Hopefully they will find somebody good!

| Yeah, it is a neat place. And you never know what you'll see at the airport here. Today I was in the pattern (in my Super Decathlon), with a BT-13 and a Great Lakes. A Beech Stagerwing was being worked on outside a hanger as well.
