Default CFI's for the Air Force, 24$HR, Colorado.

Stole this off my alumni website...thought some of yall might be interested.

The Air Force has restarted it's old program to screen future pilots and combat weapons systems officers. This is to take place of the former IFT/NIFT contract progams at local fbo's. This is not normal flight intstruction. You will teach in the Air Education and Training Command Environment which differs from civilian flight programs.

Here's the add:
Doss Aviation is hiring instructor pilots (military or otherwise) to take the first crack at washing guys out of Air Force flight training. If you live in Colorado, they'll pay you 24 bucks an hour to be a flight instructor in the Katana. You need your CFI ticket and 100 hours of CFI experience. Find out more info here http://www.dossifs.com/available_positions.htm

Looks like you have to be a 2-year, and from my understanding of the program, its all in the Katana = no multi time. Other than that it looks like a pretty sweet gig.

Actually for USAF IFS it's 2 years OR 100 hours dual given. Flying is in the Diamond (analog instruments, not glass)

Instructor load is around 3 students per instructor. Highly competitive, currently they are placing instructors in a newhire pool. Looking to begin adding instructors in December/January as the load of 2Lt.,'s inprocessing goes up at that time. CFI's are paid on total time worked, not on flight time. Most instructors full time, some part time positions as needed to cover for other CFI's as needed.

It's competitive and be sure you're able to pass a BI or don't bother applying.

I should send them a resume just to mess with 'em. I have almost 400 hours in DA20's, most of it teaching Navy IFS.

ERAU used to (may still do) the initial training at the air force academy there in denver. They too used the diamond products.

No multi time, but good pay. I think they had a hard time staffing it. They used to advertise ALL THE TIME for instructors up there.

Obviously the multi time, for most CFI's, is key. But from the above post, $24/hr = about $48k/yr full time since you are paid on total hours worked, not flight time. Do that for a year to pay off some debt !

This would be a great job if you already had enough multi time to meet the mins of whatever 135 or 121 operation you want to work.

BI = Background investigation.

Like I said, it's a real good gig...just expect to be put into a pool right now if you do get the job.

Also, isnt all the time Left Seat???

I am thinking these are the special Diamond aircraft with the primary intruments on the right side so power control is done with left hand that they ordered a few years ago.

When does the two years start? From date of pool entry, or start of actually working?

Its not a 2 year commitment to work there, its 2 years experience or 100 hours dual given. I think.

Correct. There is no two year commitment. The USAF AETC requries that all CFI's training pilots in IFS (Inital Flight Screening) must be either 2 Year CFI's (meaning you have had an instructor certificate for 2 years) or you have a minimum of 100 hours dual flight given as an instructor.

I was fortunate to give IFT to two Academy grads who are now in jet training.

Part of me is disappointed that the IFT/NIFT program is going away, but a larger part of me thinks it's a good idea to do the training with more of an "in-house" feel.

I sent my info two weeks ago, no response yet. Has any one else heard back from them?

Has anyone verified whether they pay per flight hour or for all of the time you're clocked in?

Interviews are being set up for the end of the week. They will be hiring 2-5 instructors this month, and 35 total by next summer. I have 1000 total time and was told I was on low end of time.
