The lifers enjoy the schedules and have made peace with the operation of a freight company operating on slim margins. The time builders are looking for multi-time and you can get it quickly at RAM, especially if you are willing to go where the flying is available. That's why they take people with little multi time, they'd like to keep you for at least 400 hours. That was RAM before they bought Package Express, I assume it's still similar. It's challenging freight flying, you get to fly in all kinds of weather and you shoot approaches to minimums when required - it WILL make you a better pilot :-).

Also, would you happen to know what their 'lifers' top out at in pay? How long would it take to get based in FL? Thanks for the info.

Look at it this way - as far as I know RAMs never killed anybody. One guy died in their service, but it was clear blue day, solid VFR and he ran the plane into a tower. I don't really hold RAM responsible for that one, and it certainly wasn't an MX issue. They will expect you to fly in legal weather, so if it's 200-1/2 and there's an ILS off you go, you don't get to say "I'm not comfortable with that". Many years ago there were stories of RAM pilots opening the door to find the runway to land on - those were likely exagarations(sp?) and they've certainly cleaned up a lot since then. Quote:
