Default CFI/CFII - Urgent

We are looking for a full-time CFI/CFII for our flightschool here in Mesquite, TX (DALLAS) Able to start in 2 weeks. ASAP!!!! We have one of our Instructors leaving we are now looking to replace him, and would be looking for a Flight instructor with a CFI/CFII.

Our fleet is mainly Cessna 150s and a Cessna 172 so we would prefer somone under the weight of 190 pounds. This is a full-time position and you will take over some of the students from the previous instructor.

Low-time CFI/CFIIs are more than welcome to apply and training can be given to the right candidate. We pay $15/hr. for both ground and flight instruction.

Please contact us via Phone or Email. Regards, Grant Rubinson, Chief Flight Instructor, Mesquite Aviation.

I thought every flight school out there has a stack of resumes 2 feet high.

Anyhow, it does seem like there is small shortage of CFIs at the moment. My flight school was having a tough time recruiting as well.

Just saying if they increased their compensation to, oh, say, $35/hr I bet they'd have quite a few more applicants. There would be no demand for a CFI job in dallas, at $15/hr me thinks...but I could be wrong. Especially at a school that doesn't have a twin.

I think there is a shortage of career pilots these days too. The school I used to work at has seen smaller and smaller numbers since I left in august '05.

similar thoughts here. i'm on the high end of compensation already, that's what keeps me here, but i'll go where the money is and the ability to make it.

plus you're looking at relocating if you;re not in dallas.

$15/hr might be the going rate, but not necessarily the way to fill those slots up.

pay isn't spectacular, but the planes are safe and the student base is immense. if someone is looking to fly a lot, this is the place to do it. texas summers in a 150 (not 152) aren't terribly unpleasant. if you're looking to make money, you're in the wrong business. if you want to fly 100 hours a month and then take the next step, this is the kind of place you want to work at.

Have you considered, even remotely, making the compensation higher? $15/hr isn't going to bait many in.

Also, does it have to be full time? Can it be part time?

Roundout,

Have you posted on more than one employment web site? This is a good site, but there are other "dedicated" sites that might offer more job hunter traffic.

AOPA, my college (ERAU) has a mass email system that gets sent out with jobs, Find a Pilot, etc. are all free. I'm sure there are more out there.

i posted on a couple other sites. only thing is that, if possible, i'd rather get somebody from here because people who visit this site tend to be more concerned with actual knowledge of subjects rather than time-wasters who don't care if they never sign off a student for a checkride.

compensation won't be higher unless we raise the rates or fuel goes down.

it might very well end up being two part-timers.

I would think that fuel rates would be reflected in the rental cost and not in the instructor rate. I also think the point of most replies to your job is that you are not going to atract any high quality CFI's at that rate. Yes, you will get the brand new CFI with no experience and the 1,000hr ticket punchers but you stated that you don't want these type of instructors.
Moral to the story is that you can't have your cake and eat it too.
