This is a brainstorming thread to think up ways a pilot can earn some cash on the side. I'd appreciate anything you've heard of, no matter how far fetched. Thanks |

I could be incorrect on this. |

There is. It's not "for hire," (non-profit organization). It's along the same lines as Air Lifeline, or Angelflight, I believe. Don't need a commercial ticket to do it, but can't get paid for it either (and have to pay pro-rata share). |

Isn't that a big business in Florida with tiny GA planes? Not looking for a new job or anything but I think I saw a TV special on that once..

You could be an international mercenary, and live a Han Solo kind of life with your own "Millenium Falcon".

[ QUOTE ] Drug Running... [/ QUOTE ] I had a student offer to set me up with a "friend" that did that. He said one or two runs and I'd be set for the year ($$ wise). This was down in FLA. I said no thanks, and voided his solo. Never flew with him again . Turns out he was one of the northwest's biggest dealers....Oh the joys of Pt. 61 instruction .~wheelsup |

I have friend in the funeral industry who suggested I ferry the corpses of those who die out of state and need to be transported back to their funeral location. Looked in to it and it seems pretty lucrative but I'm not sure if I could get over that creepy feeling of having a dead body in the back. Anyone have any experience with this? |

[ QUOTE ] ...I'm not sure if I could get over that creepy feeling of having a dead body in the back. Anyone have any experience with this? [/ QUOTE ]Have a friend who did some of that in South America. The only interesting story was one time when the family of the deceased couldn't afford the normal freight aircraft (a metro, I think?) so they had to do the transport in a C-206. They sat the individual in the right seat next to him for the flight. Apparently, the body made some creepy noises due to pressure changes associated with climbs/descents. The problem with scamming cash with an airplane is that there are so many hobby pilots out there trying to recoup some of their costs that most markets tend to saturate. Things to consider: -Pipeline patrol -traffic watch -banner tow (depending on aircraft type) -Aerial photography -Fire spotting -or, my favorite: airplane + CFI = flight school! |

[/ QUOTE ] I have been a Paramedic / Fire Capt. for 8 yrs now and have transported more "bodies" than I can even remember. Believe it or not, (if there is no trauma involved) looking at a corpse is very calming. Most of the time they look at peace. Maybe it's just me because I've had some MAJOR trauma calls but it really isn't that big of a problem. In my opinion anyway. All it is is just a container. The person isn't really there anymore. As long as you can respect and show courtesy towards the body and family, you will be fine. Brent |

How about controlling/flying model airplanes in the right seat while someone else is flying the airplane. Think of it as target practice on peoples homes... I mean target practice on stationary vehicles. |

TAB made a lot of money quick. It seems easy. Just go convince a bunch of fools you have an airline and for $100K up front you will train them how to fly for you.
