Make him go and actally pay for somebody to lower his insurance. Cheap A$$. Once again, somebody trying to take advantage of us low timers...good luck finding a job that will let you take a few days off for "fun multi time".Interviewer: How did you build all your multi time? Pilot: I rode along as gear/flaps guy for a lawyer for a year in a C-340 and logged it as ???PIC? SIC?? Nope, neither of us has a MEI, but it was free time. Just curious... Just my opinion. |

So let me get this straight. Someone is offering free time in his 340 in addition to paying 'expenses' and all you want to do is bitch about it? I think that some of the comments here are overly harsh. This guy does not 'need' anyone to fly with him. The fact that a CFI is not required means that he is not using the second pilot for insurance reasons either (even if he wanted a CFI, I doubt he needs one for insurance with the time he has). Maybe he is just a nice guy that prefers to fly with another pilot. Since he is involved with Angelflight, he would probably enjoy helping others. Many on this board would see nothing wrong with going to ATP or Ari-Ben for their multi-time building programs, even though half the time is spent under the hood. How is that any better than riding with this guy? Going on a trip and having 'expenses' paid sounds like a better deal to me. I like free food! As long as you get the required endorsements to fly this thing as PIC, you could either give the owner dual as a CFII or MEI, or log safety pilot time. You could also just log PIC on the legs you actually fly. I would imagine he would offer to trade legs if he is offering this opportunity. |

Have to agree, doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. I'd do it just for the fun of it.

Re-reading my post I guess I was a little harsh on the guy, if he has good intentions for it and lets you fly the airplane, and is not doing it just to get a break on his insurance. Just be careful as to how you log it since it will come back and haunt you in an interview down the road. Sorry for being overly negative, but I just am a firm believer in if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is...not many people are this nice, if this is legit. |

I flew with this guy. Nothing but a class act, allows you to log PIC any legs that you want. The aircraft is great, has wonderful Garmin avionics and is maintained very well. Also, to everyone that thinks no one would take this position, he is swamped with people wanting to do it. The only problem is how to support yourself in LA with no pay. |
