Default Operational Aviation Forecaster/ Forecast Services

Responsibilities:

1. Provide hourly aviation forecasts for both surface and in-flight aviation specific weather parameters in the 0-12 hour domain, utilizing advanced forecasting modeling and workstation technology
2. Provide trend analysis and forecast briefings for aviation dispatchers and traffic management personnel
3. Generate traffic Impact forecasts detailing aviation-specific information for significant weather events including synoptic and mesoscale severe, winter snow and ice and tropical systems
4. Generate short-fused narratives, forecast discussions and weather alerts for terminal and in-flight operations as weather conditions dictate
5. Sponsor Traffic Management Significant Weather Briefings. Provide detailed forecast information for weather impacting aircraft arrival rates at airports of varying capacity
6. Actively participate in daily Forecast Center weather briefings. Engage in and add value to forecast discussions involving global and synoptic scale trends, model bias and expected developments in weather patterns in the Day 0 –2 domain. Specific focus on forecast trends through 12 hours.


Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's Degree/ Atmospheric Science or related curriculum
2. 4-5 years’ experience in an Operational Forecasting environment. Previous experience within the commercial and/ or military aviation sectors desirable.
3. Solid understanding of theoretical and practical meteorology
4. Demonstrable proficiency in forecast process within an operational forecasting environment
5. Demonstrable proficiency in utilizing advanced workstation technology and methods to derive short fused forecasts in an operational environment
6. Ability to deliver operational forecast content consistently and accurately within rigid time constraint
7. Demonstrable and exceptional telephone, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
8. Demonstrable and exceptional organizational, data analysis, data collation and process management skills
9. Ability to effectively multitask and adjust priorities based on changing weather conditions in a fast-paced operational environment
10. Ability to effectively communicate and interact in an operational team environment
11. Background and/ or previous experience within aviation traffic management, operational flight planning, and/ or operational decision support markets helpful
