Default North Carolina (CLT) area Jobs....

I am about 9 months away from graduating from college, and close to getting my CFI. My parents are moving to N. Carolina--the CLT area (Monroe) and I just wondered if anyone could give me some names of some flight schools in the area, whether or not they are looking for instructors right now--it doesn't matter. I just want to make some contacts should I decide to venture back to the nest .

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Chris

Check out the flight school at Concord Regional. I interviewed there before I got the job with Chicago Express. Seemed like a really great school, but they just had some people coming through the pipeline there who were getting their CFI. Great way to make contacts at NASCAR, since most of the fleet for Roush and Hendrick are there.

Thanks for the advice---by the way congrats on the job with Continental Express---big move from the SABB-340 to the EMB-145 (or 135??). Anyways, in a PM from Doug he told me about your new job. Awesome!

Yeah, I will definately check out the flight school at Concord Regional. Do you have any contact name/info? Thanks again for your help! By the way---what's life like at Continental Express versus Chicago Express? Better, different?? In any event, I look forward to your response. I will talk to you later!

The thing about Monroe that makes it tough is that its on the east side of Charlotte. It would be really tough to commute to Concord (JQF). Although the other posting is correct in that 80% of the Nascar teams do base there. At Monroe (EQY) there is Piedmont Hawthorne (704) 226-2300 and On Eagles Wings Aviation (704) 289-3155. I have been in the Piedmont Hawthorne FBO several time and its a nice place for a smaller airport. I would focus my search there. Good luck.

One day I was in the FBO there, and my friend was like "OOH, OOH, it's Dale Jarrett!!!"

Me : "Who in the hell is Dale Jarrett, and why in the f&$k are you on his nu^#s"??

My Friend : "HE'S A DRIVER....."

Me, to the attendant : "Can I pay for my gas and get the hell out of here?"

Man, I hate that state.....

I loved Charlotte. I'd love to move back there after living here! I lived downtown which is pretty fun for a twenty-something guy. Ahhh, those Carolina girls.... Married one of 'em and took her further south to FL.

Look at Wilgrove Airport. www.wilgroveairport.com I know the owner. It's GA at it's finest. You'll be on your own to find students, but if you get a name established you can keep quite busy. Send me a PM if you want to know more.

CaptChris- The Piedmont folks I know are in Greensboro and Raleigh, so sorry, no contacts. The other post is correct too "Wilgrove International" is an awesome airport. GA has a big following in that area. Are you hoping to instruct? Do you have your CFI-I?

wrghyflyr---I currently am preparing for my CFI checkride. But, by the time I graduate in August I will have my CFI/CFII and possibly MEI depending on how motivated I am haha. Was it easy to pull students in at this Wilgrove Airport? Any multi-time? Where did you go from there? You're help is really appreciated man, I know I say it every time, but I really value this advice.

CaptChris- Sounds like you are on the right track. I have some experience flying into Wilgrove, and like all GA airports I go in, I try to find out what the general level of interest is, and who is flying what. My experience is that in terms of making a market for yourself as an instructor, its really good to have your CFI-I. In terms of the day to day work, I found it a much better working enviornment dealing with folks who are past the basics. As far as my story, I had some luck in getting about 650 hrs of King Air time in the Greensboro area flying for a couple businesses. Back to the race team issue. Many of the race teams are far less picky about insurance req's and time in type requirements. I got really lucky in this, which led to getting on with Midway flying 737-300's. Right place, right time. After 9/11 and Chapter 11, I was furloughed, and Midway went further off track. Right now I'm finishing up my undergrad at UNCW. From there I am applying to several law schools. I have also been accepted at ERAU for their Masters in Aeronautical Science program. Decisions.... decisions. Luckily, I still do some instrument instruction and flying in the Wilmington area. If there is any way I can help, let me know. When you get to Monroe email me and I'll put out some more feelers for multi-time.

wrghflyr---thanks again for your help. Sorry to hear about being furloughed, but everything happens for a reason. I have two friends who are taking similar paths as you. One has his Commercial ASEL/AMEL and is in law school at George Washington Univ. in D.C. Another friend of mine is doing ERAU's online master's program---in Human Factors. I would never do human factors myself, but none the less he enjoys the online experience, so that may be something to consider. Also, he still is a full-time instructor.

I read about people in your shoes when I was first getting to college and I decided to change from an aviation major to a business major. Here I am, 10 months and counting from graduation, with a bunch of flying ratings.... a bachelor of science in marketing, and no clue as to what I am doing in life haha. All I know is that my terminal goal for aviation is to end up with AirTran or Southwest. Getting there---I have no idea. But yea, keep in touch for sure... PM me if you'd like, and I'll be in touch when I am getting closer to moving to the Monroe area! If you could set me up with some names or people that'd be AWESOME!

Thanks again!

Chris

I'm with you, Lloyd!

As for NC women, I just started dating one, so I'll be forming and reforming my opinion daily. Or hourly.

I think women all across America are the same. Moody, demanding, and so on---every guy knows what I am talking about. NC girls just have that southern twang---that Jessica Simpson accent that every guy loves!

Eh.....nope. Not true.

You need to hang somewhere different. Or treat 'em different.
