| I see in a lot of the posts that most of you have around 1000 total and at least 50 multi? I'm just about to finish up at a 141 school and have 320tt 79multi and about 10 actual instrument but around 100 simulated instrument. Where do I start? I was going to start my CFI shortly and be done with that in about a month and continue to build time. I guess my question is am I even close to getting a descent paying job flying? |

| lol, guess I should rephrase that. Can I get paid now instead of forking out cash, or is a CFI about all I'm worth for the time being? |

According to some airlines not too long ago (and maybe now for that matter) you were more then worthy of being a co-pilot on a 70+ seat regional jet and would have hired you with those times. A part 135 company won't touch you but they have FARs restrict the minimum experience. You'll have some people on here crucify you if you say you don't want to CFI. Do you want to CFI? If not why are you getting it? By all means please don't become an instructor if you don't want to instruct. Your future students will thank you. My advice (because I know you give a rat's___) enjoy the ride. I hold the opinion that if you go from the training enviornment right into the right seat at a regional you missed the best part of aviation. I find it sad that guys on here have never taken any time away from training or Part 121 PAX flying. It's no mystery why these are the same guys that are the most disgruntled in 5 years when the shine wears off and that RJ job they couldn't wait to get to is in fact just a job. Have fun and enjoy the ride. Don't bite at the first place that will take you. Find the place YOU want to go to and do what it takes to get there. | |

| I've actually been looking at different places to get my CFI II. I really didn't know where to go from here except get my resume' together. I was actually looking forward to becoming an instructor at my 141 school. They're getting benefits now and eventually free training in rj sims after so many hours. Haven't looked into that yet. Plus I enjoy college for now. I could stay for another year or so as long as I'm not bored in a lecture hall. I still have to finish my CSEL add on to the multi I have right now. Check ride is next week so I don't want to get too far ahead. But it's nice to have an idea of what I could do. I see on some other threads that there's going to become a surplus of pilots now, so it's probably better to teach. I'm just feeling out my options and keeping an open mind. |

| From what I've read here, a lot of people reminisce fondly about the flying they did before getting to 121 job. I suggest looking into pipe line flying, aerial photography, jump pilot, etc. Do something fun while you can.

| In terms of a descent paying flying job....no...unless you instruct. Many flight schools are facing shortages of CFI's and offer pretty good starting pay. In regards to 121, there are a few airlines that will consider you with those times, but expect to live on low FO pay for the first year. We all have to pay our dues, and starting out at the bottom usually involves low pay and long hours. |

| Thanks, I think my plan is to check out this career expo next week and go through with my CFI. I'm going to aim for the school where I got my initial training and where I'm getting my CFI at. I figure one of those places would be the best to start. |
