| Re: Mesa Airgroup Get your CFI if you don't have one and teach. It is the best experience you can get if you are serious about aviation. Then go out and sort through the regionals and pick one that you believe in and one that suits you. Use the current market for your advantage and get a good job. You want to go to a good regional, because you are probably going to be there for awhile.

| Re: Mesa Airgroup I'm not going to say working at Mesa is a bad thing to do. I have some friends who work at Mesa and they hate it but at least they're active with the MEC and are trying to change things, I guess.

| Re: Mesa Airgroup I'd recommend going elsewhere just from talking to a few others that have worked there. In my Republic class, we have 3 guys that just left Mesa and gave up their seniority to come over.
Good luck in whatever decision you make! |

Good luck in whatever decision you make! | Seniority? lol At Mesa that means nothing...one never loses what one doesn't have...all they did was gain their life back by leaving Mesa. |

| Re: Mesa Airgroup MAG-ALPA will never change anything at that airline. Been there, tried that. It will not happen. A weak, disorganized pilot group will never have any effect at all. Hell, a powerful pilot group at that place won't help. |

| Re: Mesa Airgroup I'm at Mesa. Please stay away. I'm surprised with all the stuff that's out there in forums that people still ask about Mesa. There is nobody that has any aspirations of moving on from here that is happy with the company, the only ones are the lifers in PHX, most because they can't find jobs anywhere else. Mesa truly hires the lowest of the low, most of the pilot group is unhappy as soon as we hit 10k we start bitching about everything and life in general. It's a horrible company turns the employees into miserable human beings. I already have a class date with a better operation and am moving on from this hell hole, there's always talk about burning down the house but at the end of the day most of the pilot group doesn't care about bettering the company it's every man for themselves. I was truly happier throughing boxes at UPS then I ever was at working of Mesa. We lost about 400 pilots just in the last 6 months, think about that.
By the way assuming you get through the interview wichis nothing more than a pulse and personality check, training is the worst in the industry they have no instuctors they use AE and Skywest materials, they don't teach and best of all you will spend about 3-5 months from start to actually flying a plane because of the screwed up training department and about 250 pilots waiting for training. If you have the mins for Mesa 500 hours, then you can go some place else. Even living in base won't matter much at Mesa. It's till 8 days off with 16 hour duty days. Good luck |

| Re: Mesa Airgroup Its good to hear from an actual Mesa pilot ... I've read many of the negative posts but most from pilots that have never actually been at Mesa. It seems Mesa is the flavor of the month for them ....... maybe the last several months. I remember reading about 9E about 6 months ago being the last place you want to be and there are many that suggest stay away from ASA !!!! I will say not all Mesa pilots are as disgruntled as you. I've talked with no less than 5 Mesa pilots (Freedom) over the last 3 months and 1 was non-committal, 1 said stay away, 2 said all regionals sucked and one is a 4 year veteran and seemed quite happy. All lived in domicile (MCO) so that seems to be a major issue. |

Still there's a whole bunch of displacements and junior assignemtns that go on, it's still Mesa. One Freedom CA a while back in one of the crew lounges got illegally scheduled and would have had 7 days off in the bid period, yes 7. Happens every day at Mesa. My favorite is when they call me in the morning sometimes at the crack of dawn telling me that I'm doing a shift at a base that I'm not even based at, this happens at least once a month. It happens because people don't really care about the company, their job and each other, and why should they?? It's not just me I have plenty of buddys where we just sometime marvel at the stupidity of this company, or what ever it is. By the way I'm not disgruntled I'm just trying to be real to prevent others from making a mistake. |

| Re: Mesa Airgroup Again, thanks for the 1st hand info. Although you're confirming alot of what others have already said, it carries a ton more merit coming from a Mesa pilot. Too many on this board offer their opinions when they have no idea what they're talking about...... no 1st hand knowledge. Are you planning/hoping to go elsewhere anytime soon ?? Also, how much should your base count in the equation ?? Many have posted that location can be almost as important as any other consideration. I've been told that ASA is another regional to try and avoid however, their base in ATL is very attractive to an east coast guy ??? |

If you've got family I'd avoid commuting. A word of advice for low timers, at this point you really only care about fly for the airlines at any cost even if you make min wage with 8 days off it still beats flying old 172s. But trust me it happens to every low timer that starts at an airline, very quickly in a matter of months after the high goes away you will realize that it is just a job same as anything else and you will start to think about your quality of life and pay, and eventually move to another better carrier. Junior FO turnover rate at lower end regionals like Mesa are high. Just get your time up and go for better airlines like Skywest and save the hassel. Just ask yourself if you really want to fly for the certain regional, as in be a captain and even retire there, if the answer is no then get the time up and go to a place where you can say yes to the question. |
