Default Shirt Color?

I have an interview this week with two different aviation companies, albiet not for a flying position. One of the positions is as a charter scheduler for a VERY successful Part 135 operation and the other is as an aircraft broker.

Over the weekend I went out and purchased a nice suit. It is black and the belt and shoes will be black as well. I do not want the white shirt, as I found while doing a search, white and black is for a waitor or butler. What color shirt will add a little pizzaz with out being to flashy?

I was thinking of a nice blue, but I think that the one I have in mind is a bit too much. The other thought was with a light gray, however, that seems a little to quiet for me. What are your suggestions?

Thanks!

I always really liked the blue shirt with the white collar and cuffs.

Or you can go with a nice purple shirt... Top it off with a nice hat, chain, and cain and we can call you the pimp of JC!

Whatever you want, it doesn't matter as long as it looks nice!

I have a dark grey suit that I wear a light blue shirt and dark blue tie with, it looks real nice.

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. I chose dark blue because thats what I liked. Any reputable company shouldn't care what color your shirt is; at least in my opinion.

Don't attempt any pizazz. White is never wrong and is the most conservative color. Next in line is light blue. Unless you have very good taste, deviate from these at your own peril. You rarely see George W or any of his ilk in anything other than white. When you do, it's light blue.

You're allowed some creativity in your choice of ties.

Those are priceless! I like the red one.

I found a nice combo last night. A gray shirt with a black, white, grey and light green striped tie. It sounds like a lot but it looks really good and very casual.

Can't beat JC Penny's. New suit on sale (originally $400), shoes, socks, shirt and tie all for under $300!

For what it's worth, you absolutely MUST wear a white shirt for an interview that requires a suit. It's an etiquette thing.

Of course if you don't know about it, chances are the interviewers don't either. Ah, the death of good manners...

I disagree. As far as I'm concerned, as long as a suit is professional looking and nice looking, there shouldn't be a problem. Now, there's nothing wrong with a black and white suit. If thats what looks good on you, go for it. I don't understand how it has anything to do with etiquette, or good manners for that matter.

Remember that you're not dressing to meet your own standards, you're dressing to meet or exceed the standards of the person who is interviewing you. Unless you know exactly what those standards are, your best bet is to assume they're very high.

You can determine what "high standards" are by looking around at the wealthiest, most powerful, and best educated people and emulate the way they dress. This will inevitably be dark suits and white shirts. Sure, this may be overkill for some jobs, but almost anyone will recognize class when they see it.

Deviating from this uniform will really stand out to someone familiar with business etiquette. Look at almost anyone professionally giving advice to job seekers and they'll say pretty much the same thing.

A gray shirt is a faux pas.

Dark suit (black), white shirt, and solid color or color prep tie.

The end.

White shirt is the best bet. Conservative and classy. Always appropriate.

You really can't go wrong with a pale blue shirt. The paler the better.

It matters more than one may think... look for this book " Dress for Success" from James T. Molloy

Thanks for all of the input. Turns out things went well and the Cheif Pilot even commented on how nice it looked. Now awaiting word!

Thank all!
