| AWAC Interview Had an interview with AWAC yesterday in Appleton, WI. Here's the lowdown on the day...
AWAC won't positive space you out there unless you're flying on AWAC, so I had to go standby on US Airways. I could have interviewed in WI, DC or Philly. I chose WI because it's not as far and originally I could have gotten in earlier. I showed up for a 6 am flight on the 16th and was not able to get on the flight, so I went back home and came back for a 3:45 flight. I made it on that flight as well as the connecting flight and didn't get into Milwaukee until midnight, followed by a 100 mile drive to Appleton.
So...got to the hotel and was in bed by 2:30 a.m. for an 8 a.m. interview.
A little tired, but not too bad. Showed up at KATW about 7:50 and was the only one of 3 that showed up for the interview. Apparently the other locations have more that show up for interviews. I signed in and Sara took me into a conference room and gave me the company overview and quick benefits explanation. I'm fairly impressed with their benefits; they do give you $300/year towards uniforms and will credit you $50/year for a headset. The travel bennies are similar to other regionals as well.
John came in shortly after and we started the rest of the interview. John is a training captain, a check airman and doesn't fly the lines too much. We discussed my training, and then they both basically just went down a list of questions. A lot of typical HR questions; why AWAC, why are you leaving your current company, leadership style, what will your last student you flew with say about you, biggest failure in life... There were quite a bit more along those lines.
We then moved onto the technical portion and this wasn't much at all. I had read the gouges and I was expecting more, but it never came. We discussed some of the airplanes I've flown recently and their limitations and systems. There was nothing to it.
I was out of there by 10 a.m.. There is no paperwork to do that day as they send it to you ahead of time and you have to have all 30 pages filled out when you show up. So..back to the hotel to take a nap since my flight didn't leave from MKE until 4:45.
An hour after I left, Sara called me with a contingent job offer and offered me 2 class dates to choose from.
Now comes the decision time... I've accepted a few other interviews coming up, so we'll see.
Seems like a great company. They strictly operate the CRJ-200.
Times are 850'ish and 110'ish.

Congrats on the offer!
Here's the next question... which I'm sure leads to your dilemma...
When are the class dates... and what other interviews (when and with who?) do you have coming up?
At any rate... it's nice to have choices!

| Re: AWAC Interview Don't go to AWAC. I hear management is getting out of control. Not like it used to be. Go elsewhere. I know it had a good reputation, but it's been tarnished over the past few years. I don't know anyone who works there that would recommend it to their friends any more.
Look into XJT, Mesaba, etc. You'll have a future there. It looks as if someone or some people high up are draining the capital away from the Company similar to what MAIR did to Mesaba pre-bankruptcy. Yes, this is all public information available on bts.gov. Check it out. |

| Re: AWAC Interview Thanks for the input. I haven't decided anything yet. AWAC isn't my first choice, but they're on my short list.
Wheelsup...I'll do my research like you suggested, but I do know they have an about 10 years left on their contract with US Airways, so the stability seems to be there. I actually bumped into some AWAC pilots at the airport yesterday in MKE and was able to pick their brain on just about everything. XJT is at the top of my list...I just haven't gotten a response...doing what I can and have a lot of people helping me out.
We'll see what happens...

| Re: AWAC Interview Your interview was 2hrs 10 minutes long? Wow. After reading other gouges, I would say that is pretty dang good. Are you an academy guy, or did you do all or most of your flying at FBO's?
Oh yeah, and congrats by the way! |

Oh yeah, and congrats by the way! | Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not...but anyways. I was the only one that showed up to the interview in WI, so everything was done in a row with no breaks, so all in all, it was probably a normal interview. If others were there, you'd leave while they were interviewing other candidates and be rotated in throughout the morning. Originally, with the others there, they told me we'd be done around 1300...
All my flying at a local FBO.

It definitely wasn't the hardest interview process; I was at ease throughout most of the interview. I came prepared though, and was ready for anything else just in case.

| Re: AWAC Interview Don't worry about not hearing from XJT yet. I had a buddy of mine visit who started there about 5 months ago and he said they're pretty well staffed right now. He's been sitting reserve out in SoCal and has only gotten 80 hours in the airplane in the 5 months he's been there (including the 2 months of training). He's just been sitting around the airport on reserve most days.
I'm guessing they're not gonna be hiring much for a little while. |

| Re: AWAC Interview Congrats on the offer from AWAC. I'm doing IOE there right now. So far it's been a good company to work for. If you accept it I think you will like it. I did my interview in D.C. and we had about 13 people there. I haven't heard much about the management stuff. I do know there are rumors, and we all know about rumors, that they might make LGA a pilot domicile. Maybe I'll see you around on the line.

I didn't take the class date; the timeframe was too soon for my family. I like the company and it still may work out, so we'll see.

| Re: AWAC Interview I'll post a link as soon as the union goes public with the site.
Remember Airdale's first post about getting hired at Colgan? How he loved the Company and couldn't wait to work there? Check out the pro pilot folder, it's in there somewhere, I think the post about the Colgan Pilot Group. Anyway, now look how disgruntled he is. Just something to think about. |
