Overall AWAC has its problems, for now, its ok to come here. We'll see what happens in the new year. I'd tell anyone; if u like the bases, come, if not, don't. There are better places to go in imo. If you live in DC for example, come. But if you live in LA, y come?

MusketeerMan, congrats on the interview.

Sorry I'm a little late. And surprisingly, AWAC is in my top five. But then again, what regional isn't in my top five that is union, and good equipment and bases. Well, nevermind.

Congrats on the interview/job offer. Its a good place to be. The future here is unknown... but it is at XJT, Compass, Colgan, etc. Regionals are all unstable...even the stable ones are unstable. AWAC was a stable regional 2.5 years ago.

I disagree with Wheelsup that I'd go to SKYW or MESABA?? I am assuming he just snorted something before he said Mesaba offers a better future than AWAC. 1.5 years ago Mesaba was furloughing pilots...now hiring street captains...

This isn't a bad place... struggling right now...but not a bad place. Do your homework though and make your own decisions. Its your future....not a panel on a message board.

Congrats again and welcome aboard!

Well, I don't have an offer or interview date. Just saying that AWAC is on my list of potentials for when I feel ready to make the move.

How are the upgrade times at AWAC? I've heard great things with exception to the upgrade times. I'm at Mesa so anything is an improvement.
Hopefully AWAC calls me for the interview.

At the moment, it's 2.5 years. With all of the attrition that's going on right now, it is likely to start sliding toward the 2 year mark. That could all change tomorrow though, so don't plan on that. I'm sure you've heard it before, but upgrade time is impossible to predict.

I've been at AWAC 1.5 years. Currently about 180 spots from upgrade. I'd say on avg. year round we upgrade like 15/month (Agree wheels?).... which puts me at about 2.7 years if it keeps up. We have a quite a few guys in the pool at SWA (I've personally flown with six guys in the pool there), a LOT going to NWA, United, and Delta. I think upgrade will be about 2 years here in the near future. Plus with the opening of the new bases, that should create a few new spots but not many.

Yeah, a 4 year upgrade is probably a pretty good benchmark. The current upgrade is low because so many people have jumped after AWAC started flying for US Air in 8/2005.

If you do the math, 15 upgrades a month, 750 pilots, 400 of them CA's, that means you have to move up 350 pilots. That's 50 months, or just over 4 years.

We're losing about 20 Captains a month over the last few months....not to mention a few FO's every month.... so we're losing ~3% of our pilot group. 2-3 year upgrades will continue for a while. Upgrade is low now and will continue because the big guys are hiring... and some haven't even begun to hire yet. Also...there was a WAVE of people about 1.5 years ago that upgraded, and they are all starting to leave (Cathay, CAL, NWA, Delta, etc.)... so that is good too!
