I realize that it is standard to wear a suit to an airline interview, but I am not interviewing with an airline, instead I have an interview for an aerial mapping job and I was wondering what other people have wore to similar interviews. Would a shirt and tie with nice slacks be good? I would wear a suit but I don't want to walk in there and be over dressed for the interview. Thanks

If you wear a suit, there's no chance of you showing up underdressed. Why take the chance?

I wouldn't wear a suit to an aerial mapping interview... Most of these companies are far more laid back than that. You could wear the suit if you want, but leave the jacket in the car!!

When I interviewed for my this type of job, I wore pretty much a suit without the jacket. Nice pants, dress shirt and tie. It's hard to go wrong with that. It's not inappropriately dressy, but it shows that you take the job seriously and that you pull yourself together well. Remember: first impressions!

I wore a polo, pressed pants, and nice shoes to a CFII job and got hired yesterday. Use your best judgment for the job type and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Dress like the guy interviewing you. Ask others what he/she wore or call anonymously and ask a secretary co-worker.

| Well depending on the size of the company, I might call and ask the person who asks the phone what pilots typically wear to the interview. In this guys case, he is probably the only guy interviewing that day. He should just dress business casual.

I'd wear a suit....minus the jacket for CFI interviews. You can save the full suit for a regional.

This reminds me of the time I used to work at UPS. I showed up for an interview as a handler rat all dressed up short of a suit jacket. When I drove up and saw the caliber of the other people interviewing there, I quickly took all of it off. I think some even showed up in jeans. Point is that unless you're going for a 100K per year job interview, most likely all you need is something casual.

I read somewhere you should dress like the people working there to basically "fit in".

I had an interview where the interviewer said aw just wear shorts it's hot here. I ended up wearing dockers and nice shirt minus the tie. He showed up wearing shorts and a t-shirt. It felt a bit awkward but I still wanted to make a good first impression especially if any of the principals of the company were around to meet. As far a the aerial mapping company goes I would loose the tie. Hope you get the job anyway.
