Default American Eagle 9/4/2007

I applied two weeks before the interview and got a call and email 2 days after submitting my app. Being from Austin, I decided to drive to Dallas for the interview.

Before I start, make sure you have ALL the paperwork they ask for, otherwise you won't even make it within 5 min.

Okay 7:30am, started off with a presentation of the company from Jim, really nice line captain, talks about pay and how the interview will go for the day. They show a video on the company. After that, he answers any questions that anyone has. Then HR comes in and hands out the paper work, this is also where they take your logbooks and 2 forms you should have had filled out before showing up. Dove into the paper work when I was the first one called out for the Tech. Brad did the tech, another line captain, really nice, easy to talk to. Sat down and asked about my current flying, talked about his vacation, chit chatted for about 20 min and then he said "Well I guess we better do this" Basically he asks you questions about a flight from start to finish. Read a METAR, do we need an alt? When do we need an alt? Here's the airport diagram for DFW, pick a runway. Takeoff distance? If RVR is (blank) can we go? What if it's this can we still go? KNOW RVR. Then pulled out a DP. We takeoff finger fly this DP for me. Low Enroute. Know your Jepps and you'll be fine. The reverse occured for STAR and Approach. Again, know RVR!!!!!! Tech took no more than 10 min, then said to go back and wait for HR.

More paper work to fill out, then called in for HR with Captain Jim. All the regular HR questions. Why Eagle? Why should we hire you? Be yourself and BE HONEST!!!! Show them you want the position, if you don't want it, then why go to the interview?!!! Finished the HR and was then sent to lunch, given a 5 dollar voucher for the cafeteria. Decent food and cheap.

Came back from lunch and two were gone, one guy just didn't get the RVR and instrument stuff, most of his flying had been VFR 135. Other guy not sure why they let him go, but he wasn't in a suit. Started with six, then down to 4.

We were then sent to the sim. Now Bill does a great job on preparing you for the sim. Just an outstanding person and a pleasure to sit with. He briefs you on the sim for about an hour and then you fly. They say it's about 30 min but it really only feels like 10min. Takeoff 24R out of LAX c/m 3000 straight out departure. left turn to join the 265 radial inbound SLI. Then given a hold and if you brief the correct entry you don't fly the hold. Then given vectors for the ILS 24R, at which point Bill gives you the flight director which is sweet!!! Fly the ILS with the flight director down to 100 above minimums. Breakout and there is a plane taxing onto the runway, go around and then Bill freezes the sim and backs it up for the raw data. He puts on the LOC, 1000ft above min. on glide slope. All you have to do is maintain glide slope till visual and land (ungraded) Come to a stop on the runway and Bill stops the sim and will shake your hand and see you off.

Went back to the hotel, and did the medical in the morning. 2 pee tests, prints and hearing test. Given a conditional offer provided everything comes back okay. Was told I would get a call on Friday so we'll see (fingers crossed).

Didn't hear anything about upgrades or what is happening behind the scenes but for QOL I wanted my choice of base which is still occuring. Good luck to those of you that apply. I really stressed over this interview with it being my first but looking back now it was no sweat. My times when I applied 820TT 105 Multi.

Good Luck!
