Thumbs up Ameriflight Interview

It feels great to write one of these up!

After checking in, meet with the VP of the flight dept. for the interview. He's a very nice guy and easy to talk to. The beginning is an overview of the company (history, present operation, and future plans). Next we went over basic HR questions (tell me about you, why Ameriflight, what do you like/dislike about your current job, etc.) After the HR section, we went into the tech. portion. This section covered a good amount of subjects. He pulled out some copies of Jepp. low enroute, an approach plate, and an airport diagram to ask random questions on. Pretty much know everything on them and you'll be fine. Weather was next. Know how to read the basics (METARs, TAFs, etc.) Know the differences between a cold front and a warm front. He touched a little on thunderstorms also (how far to avoid them, if you had to choose to fly the upwind or downwind of one, what would you choose). After weather we went into a aerodynamics. Talked about P-factor, Vmc and their factors, and a few c.g. questions. If you study Jepp. charts & plates, FAR 91, the AIM, and weather, you should be fine for the interview.

Next was the sim. The other gouges on this are right on. We did the sim in the 1900 (which was great! I've never been in a turbine sim before). Handled nice. A little heavy on the controls then what I'm used to. The profile: depart KSMO runway 21, runway heading up to 900' then left turn up to 4,000' to intercept the 316R off LAX, this will take you to SILEX for the ILS 8 into KBUR. I got up to the initial turn onto SILEX then was asked if I wanted to continue. (I thought I did something wrong! But they said they saw enough). They're looking to see that you can really fly instruments and that you have a good scan.

All in all, a good and fair interview process. It's a great company with friendly people and nice planes. I'm very excited and I'm looking forward to it.

My times going in were: 1210tt 104multi
