| Piedmont Interview May 3rd I just got the call to interview with Peidmont on Thursday May 3rd, a week from today. Truthfully, I wasn't expecting to get this call for months, until I built up some time. Right now I am at 460TT and 160ME. So now I have to cram like crazy, because these calls are few and far between, so I don't want to blow it. Almost all the gouges said they didn't get technical questions, such as what aircraft are you flying, tell me about it, brief this approach, etc...Mostly it seemed like HR questions, such as tell me about yourself, why do you want to work here, etc... Is this true? Or do I need to start studying up on the systems of every airplane I have ever flown no matter how long ago it was?
The written test, if I was to take the ATP written prepware over and over and over, and study it, will that help? I would hate to bomb out on the first part of the interview!
The sim ride? I guess this is new? Can anyone tell me about that?
Right now I am a banner tow pilot, and it really sucks! I am trying to keep a good attitude about my current job, but it's hard sometimes. I would LOVE to get a chance at going to the airlines.
I have 460TT and 160ME, which they saw before they invited me up for the interview, so I am guessing they are considering hiring me with these times. Someone said they are WAY short on FO's.
I have an excellent letter of recomendation from my last instructor who is now a FO for Express Jet.
I have a great attitude, and work ethic.
Will this be enough?
As far as the knowledge part, plain and simple. If I'm not doing it ever day, I forget it. There is so much I have to brush up on, things I learned in school, then never put to use, then forgot. I don't know where to start!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |

| Re: Piedmont Interview May 3rd Ok, first just relax, the interview here is pretty easy and I'd say well over 90% of the people who make it to the sim get hired. Let's start from the top and see if I can answer some of you more pressing questions. The "interview" is usually a 2 on 1 with John Buchannon and an HR rep. The questions from your gouge are probably spot on as far as no tech., no jepps., no TMAAT. For the 2-1 just try and relax they already want to hire you and yes we are REALLY short on FO's so it truely is up to you to give them a reason not to hire you. Back when I interviewed all they asked me was why PDT, any DUI's, any FAA violiations, how's your driving record, what is your current job etc.
For the written, I spoke with a guy in the training dept. and he told me that most of the Q's come right out of the ATP book with the exception of a few PDT related stuff, like who is the current COO?, what are some of our bases?, stuff like that. Just study your butt off for this b/c most of the people who don't get hired are shown the door b/c they busted the written.
The sim ride from what I heard is very basic. You are set up at an airport with an ILS and you basically just shoot the approach, do the missed and tell them how you would enter the hold. They are looking for basic inst. skills and don't worry about not being able to master the sim, most guys(including me) took the first lesson or 2 just to fly it right.
As far as your time goes your about par for the course for what we are hiring at right now. Like I said earlier we are way short on FO's and need people who can fill the seat and stick around for more than six months. I know you also mentioned you have a letter of rec. which will look great and yes one will be more than enough. Just focus on studying for the written, keep your inst. skills sharp and have a good attitude toward the company and you shouldn't have any problem getting in here. Good luck and PM me if you need any more advise. |

| Re: Piedmont Interview May 3rd I took the interview with Pedmont on April 24th.
For the written I would recommend studying the ATP Gleim, Jepp L charts and approach plates, Part 121 regs, and the basic stuff from the AIM. Light gun signals, runways lighting, etc. You should also learn the crew bases and the 4 names of the people in management. I would not advise just reading gouges and old tests since the test continually changes but the topic content remains the same.
The for the sim your a given a basic approach. I had to take off, fly vectors, intercept a VOR radial, enter a hold which was part of the procedure turn for the ILS, and fly the ILS to the ground. They will give you a great pre sim briefing. For the sim I would advise practicing intercepts, holds, and approaches in some short of flight simulator. The sim uses a cross hair flight director that you should be familiar with. Flying the flight director will make the sim go a lot smoother.
The interview portion is with HR and the director of training. Both are very nice people and laid back. There weren't any technical questions, more trying to figure learn the person you are and if they would mind sitting next to you for 2 hours on a flight.
Enjoy your interview and make sure you have breakfast at the hotel before you go. It can be along day. If you have any questions let me know.
