Default ExpressJet 3/19!

Finally, my turn to type one of these gouges out!

I had an 8:45am interview time at iah, luckily I live in Houston so it was less than a 30 minute drive. I woke up really early to get a head start, 5:30am. I know it sounds ridiculous, but last night I relaxed, watched a movie and didn’t think about it. So that left cram time this morning trying to go over last minute things, make sure paperwork was in order (which I don’t understand how people get it wrong… it’s incredibly easy to follow directions) and drink lots of coffee.

I got there at about 8am, and only one other person was there. Finally around 9 when they called us in there was about 30 of us. The gouges are all dead on, and everyone was super nice. Filled out a tonnnn of paperwork and then Angela gave a presentation.

About an hour after being put into the classroom I was called in for interview 1. He asked about how I liked being an instructor, explain any kind of emergencies that I have ever encountered and then gave me a scenario. He said, if you looked over and noticed the captain didn’t have his seatbelt on during takeoff at 60kts, what do you do? Then asked me to explain the factors that affect VMC. He stopped me half way through it and said it sounded like I knew what I was talking about it. Then I went out and waited in the hall for the next interview.

Chris conducted the next interview. He pulled out 2 enroute charts and 2 approach plates and said we would be going over all 4 but choose one that I wanted to start off with, I choose a low enroute chart. Asked me what the upper limit of the Atlanta class B was, whats the cloud distance we need to maintain inside class B, then pointed out a few things like mea, grid mora, what does the D and L in the vor box mean. Then went with the high enroute chart and asked why an airway went around an intersection, and mea gap. Then went to Mazatlan or Manzanillo I cant remember vor dme 2 rwy 10 approach ( I think). Asked what the number 1 meant, where is the faf, then asked to calculate vdp. I gave him the time, but then he asked for the distance, and I totally just blanked out. Then he said that was it ,and I asked him was it good or bad that we didn’t get to the 4th chart and he said it was a good thing, so I said great! Waited another 15 minutes and went into HR interview. It was Angela and an FO. I had a lot of first time pass rates on practical sign offs and he asked about the 2 that didn’t pass. Asked if I failed any check rides. Pulled out the lch ils 15 (which I had just flew 2 days earlier) and asked how many approaches and that was it since he knew I just flew it. Pulled out an arrival into some mexico airport which I can’t remember and asked when could I descend and then when to change to local altimeter from 29.92. Last question from him was, convince me you can transition from a light multi to a jet. Angela asked a few questions about check rides, incidents, etc. waited near the poster for about 5 minutes (seemed like 5 hours). She came out and said congratulations and I think my heart stopped for a while! I didn’t get a binder due to they are changing the flows. But class date is april 2nd!! Then off to fingerprints and pee in a cup. After everything was done i was back at home before 1pm.

I can’t believe it, this is incredible. I’ve been wanting to fly for an airline since I was 6! Everybody talked me out of it, said it was going to be way too hard, too much money and too much school…
Well here I am, and I STILL can’t believe it.

And thank you to everyone who has helped me get to this point on here so far. Especially Bob, he has had to deal with way too many of my annoying questions. Thanks!

Congrats! It's a great feeling doing something that so many people said you couldn't do. Good show!

Forgive my PPL mentality, but what is the correct answer to that? For the life of me, I can't think of a decent answer

the one that gets you into the next interview room.

no, but really. i went with the whole saftey issue of passengers rather than to shout out "oh hey, you should put your seatbelt on", not such a great idea. youll probably increase the probability of a situation by saying anything about a seatbelt on the takeoff run than not.

and everyone is pretty excited for me, but it doesn't really matter what other people think you can or can't do. if you've got the heart and determination then you can make it.

oh.. yea.. and money. lots of it. and i think they might start asking for it back one day soon.

My wise ass reply- Why am I looking at the captain's or anyone else's lap on the TO roll at 60kts. Shouldnt I be focused elsewhere?

Congrats

Congratulations! Walking through the IAH airport this afternoon I could tell they were interviewing today.

April 2, that's good, you have plenty of time to start studying limitations etc. now so you can get ahead before it all begins.

Not to hijack, but I had a FlyChicaga sighting upstairs though I could not introduce myself but I caught the name tag as they walked by.

There were at least five JC users in the building today then. Small world.

Ha ha, he said there were a ton of people who were from the IAH area and he can't remember too many of them either. Yes, he is from Jacksonville, yes he was an instructor at ATP. He kept running into other people he knew while waiting around. He's probably the one you remember. We are still waiting to hear whether he'll start on the 26th or the 2nd.

Well, I know he had dinner with some other guys who got hired, but that's about all I can tell you. If you want A's email address, send me a PM. I know he got numbers from a few people.

class is going pretty well so far, lots of studying. finishing up week 4 now. my systems oral is next week, i feel like i have so much studying to still do. my pc isnt even until may 23, and then ioe will probably be at least 3 weeks after that. they dont need to space it out as much as they do. i have 4 days off now and then ill have 6 days off in a week before sims, waste of time i think. nobody realllly knows where we will be based yet, they said they will tell us the end of may, but they thiiink it'll be west, ont, lax or sat, but that could change any minute. with all the expansion nobody really knows what is going to happen with base assignments. but they do have 8 interview dates in may, so they are still hiring pretty strong.
