Default Important Question about Interviewing

Throughout my flight training career like most other students on JC, I have flown various types of aircraft while en route to earning my licenses and ratings. The one thing that I am wondering is...what do I need to take away from my time in each one of these airplanes? When the time comes that I am in an interview with a freight co. or regional, what will they want me to have retained about the various a/c I have flown? Should I have information such as V speeds, fuel systems, elec. systems memorized? Thanks in advance for any help that a JC'er can offer.

You should be able to describe the plane you have the most time in.

If you were to fly a plane that had a strange quirk Iit would be a good idea to remember that. For example, the electric steering boost on the twin commander or the chute system on a SR22. Otherwise, just know the multi and the single that you have the most time in. Also, what ever you are flying at the time of the interview should be pretty fresh for you as well.

Uhm....I don't know much about the dimensions of any of the aircraft I've flown outside of gross weight.

I got asked about the engines, and fuel system. Also was asked "how does an airplane fly?" I almost laughed when I heard that one.

Oh well...my instructor asks me the wing span and length of the various A/C I have flown under him all the time. He requires me to know and remember everything I can about the planes. Maybe it's just to screw with me!

My instructor wanted me to know how many rivets(86) were on the wings... or was it, how many fuel sumps.

I was taught there are three types of knowledge in aviation.

1) Stuff the FAA wants you to know (you learn as much of this as you have to.)

2) Stuff that impresses girls at cocktail parties (learn as much as you want)

3) Stuff that keeps you from balling it up in a smoking hole (learn as much as you possibly can!)

Wingspan and rivet counts are definitely category 2.

By the way, this is an acceptable answer if you are interviewing with me: "That's a cocktail party question. Next?"

We in the Army call number 2 a few things:

1) In a friendly rivalry between pilots we call it "stump the chump."
2) In all other endeavors we call it worthless trivia.
