Default Piedmont

The interview itself is very relaxed and Sheila and John go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and calm. Your interview time is at 9 a.m. and you should show up no later than 8:45, so you need to fly in the day before unless you live close to salisbury, MD. You are given a space-A ticket along w/your application about a week before your interview date. All of us stayed at the Microtel about 5-10 minutes from the airport, the Microtel has a shuttle that will pick you up at the airport and drop you off at Piedmont HQ the next morning for free.

The day of the interview you show up with everyone in the class and you turn in your paperwork(app. and any copies they want you to bring). After that you sit in a conf. room and wait for Sheila to come in and admin. the written exam. The written is 50 Q's most from the ATP book and some w/app. plates, you are given 45 minutes to complete it and most of us were done in 20 min. Just study the gouge on willflyforfood and you will pass.

After that you wait for your exam to be graded and if you don't make an 80 or better you are sent home at that time. For everyone who does pass you are then given a company overview(about 20 minutes long) by Sheila and then you sit and wait to be called out for the 2:1 interview.

The 2:1 is very laid back just like the rest of the process. You interview with Sheila and John Buchannon(chief pilot) in a small room down the hall. Mr. Buchannon asked me most of the questions, but there were no tech. questions at all!! He asked me things like, are you mult. current? Where do you work? What do you do there? How many hours do you fly a month? Anything on driving record? Any DUI/DWI? Any FAA violations? Anything you want to tell us about yourself? That was about it, the interview lasted maybe 10 minutes. After you are done they let you go over to the airport and try to get on the next flight out.

Overall the process was nice and relaxed from the moment we walked in and we were all done with everything by noon. Seems like a great place to work and with good aircraft and good people. The times in my interview class ranged from 600-1400, some were CFI's others were 135 or freight guys. They tell you that it will take 10 days to let you know either way, but I got a letter in the mail after 4 days saying that they were putting me into the hiring pool. Good luck to anyone who interviews there I hope to be flying for them soon.

Fly-by-night: How long did it take Piedmont to call after you submitted your resume?

And, does Piedmont have any intentions of bringing CRJ's into the loop?

apparently they have had rumors about bringing the dash 8 400 on board for years. so if that doesn't happen i doubt RJs. but you never know they are owned by US airways so that might help their cause.

Short cabin, no overhead space (not even for a regularly sized small carry-on, not the behemoths that most people carry). All the baggage is stored in the back of the plane rather than underneath, and often times this means that my bags don't get there [by some dumb luck of the draw]. Seat pitch isn't spectacular (I'm a mere 6'0'') and the windows are too low.

Also it seems to take like 6000-7000 feet to rotate... Uhono why.

I rode on a CRJ-700 as a passenger the other day and I was impressed at how quiet it was, and it seemed pretty roomy especially compared to the ERJ. The ERJ I flew on was so loud from wind noise, and I was crammed in on the left side where the single seat is. Sitting in the ERJ was so cramped I felt like I was getting an MRI.
As far as Piedmont goes... They had a chance to get jets a while back but PSA under bid them. The Q-400's are still rumored to be on the way. More rumors are that Piedmont and PSA may merge. Another rumor is that Piedmont will be hiring 20 pilots a month for the next year.
Who cares about jets...big fat deal. The PSA guys walk around like their s**t dont stink because they fly jets. Were both owned by the same company. The Dash is the Caddilac of turboprops and handles like a kitten. Now all those 50 seat RJ's are losing money, but the Dash makes money half full.
But I am biased because I fly the Dash-8.

It took them 6 weeks to respond, but I think that was a little longer than normal. Most people in my interview class heard back in 2-3 weeks. Not sure why it took them so long to respond to me, but as long as you get the interview that is all that matters.

You'll find the same is true of the ERJ as well.

[quote] Same with the ERJ. Difference is the bin in the CRJ is actually bigger. Also, the -900 (and I THINK the -700) have bins up front under the pax compartment to store carry-ons. When I loaded -900s in MEM the planes were weight restricted a lot (MEM-PHX route), so that's why a lot of bags had to be re-routed.

Both the CRJ and ERJ have 31" seat pitch.

I agree that RJs aren't the most comfortable planes cabin wise, but both the ERJ and CRJ are more or less equal in there confinedness. Kinda hard to call the CRJ worst regional jet ever when you look at it that way. Ya sure you just weren't sitting next to a pax that needed two seats?

Yeah, except the ERJ seats 1-2, and if you get on the 1 side, it's much more open. That's more than likely where I felt that pitch was larger, when in fact it was just me being able to stretch into the aisle.

They both suck. You really cant compare a CRJ7 with a ERJ...try CR7 with an E170. CRJ vs ERJ there are plus in minuses, but the ERJs lav beats the CRJs hands down any day of the week and if you say otherwise your lying.
