And going backwards:[ QUOTE ] I'm trying to get ready for my 135 training & checkride with Flight Safety next month (they're going to teach me how to sit in the right seat of a Metroliner without touching anything) and no one has stopped foaming at the mouth long enough to answer my original question: How do you prepare? [/ QUOTE ] I'd help but I've only done 135 training and checkride locally (twin Cessna's), so my experience wouldn't be any help, probably. BTW, I like your sense of humor. This place does double duty as a medical forum: i.e. checking a person's skin thickness. Ciao |

Hey, I don't paint my toe nails to impress any guys. I do it cause I don't want to look at my toes nails. Just like I have hair on my head cause I really don't want to look at my scalp. But hey, if you aren't in to toe nail polish we can talk about something else. You choose: Shoes Romantic Getaways Babies Brad Pitt Chocolate |

[/ QUOTE ] Okay, I lied...this is really my last post on the subject. A 135 checkride is really no different than a 121 ride. Same stuff is usually covered. Non-precision/precision approaches with an emphasis on single engine work. Everything to ATP standards. Bone up on 135 regs, AIM material concerning pattern work and holding procedures. Op specs concerning company do's and don'ts. Weather ops...can you go? Do you need an alternate? What designates as an alternate? Min weather for t/o? Stuff like that. If you have a Metro system manual, start studying it! If you don't have it get "A turbine pilot's manual". You can probably find it on Amazon.com or maybe your local book store. Great book in explaining turbine aircraft systems and operation. An oral test is probably involved during the checkout and will probably cover systems and op specs. Got any Metro III questions (stop locks, SRL computers, blue light special)...I still remember a little even though it's been 16 years since flying one. Great pilot airplane! Big airplane systems and fast! BTW, Bud light..draft and frosty cold! |

Skip the beer, get me a good Cabernet, and if we're suggesting topics for the ladies, I say lingerie. The classy stuff, not anything from Streetwalkers-R-Us. FL270 |

[ QUOTE ] if we're suggesting topics for the ladies [/ QUOTE ] Yah, we need to girly this place up. So much talk about airplanes and stuff. Rather boring if you ask me. So lingerie is what you want to talk about? Ok, if you had the money, would you buy the Victoria Secret $11 Million Bra or would that just be a waste of money? |

"it is supremely arrogant of you to offer your opinions as gospel or even being representative of a majority of your colleagues--many of whom engaged in PFE, PFT and even dreaded PFJ schemes themselves" Excuse me, so now you're telling me many of my colleagues have done PFT. And you base this on your years of experience as a professional pilot? or what? How the hell do you know the number of pilots at UPS that are from Gulfstream? I've met one in 13 years. |

Well...I'd approach it like anything else. I'm getting ready for 757 school in mid-March. I already read the systems manual once and have pumped folks that have been through the program for info. I'd try to get as much intel on the program as you can...what's important and what might not be. You damn well better be a sharp IFR pilot and know the system. Have you ever flown the sim? Find out if you can get some free time in the sim somehow. Maybe get to know the sim techs who work on the stuff at night and see if you could buy them a case of beers to play during the off hours while they are doing their "work". Get into the memory items with limitations and checklists...know them inside and out. Find out who's going to give the checkride and find out what his pet peeves are.

[ QUOTE ] Apparently Ameriflight doesn't even think that the time that they sell in the Metro to people willing to throw the gear handle and talk on the radios is worthwile either. This is directly from their website on what they expect out of pilot applicants. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, the timebuilders are looked at as purely a source of $$$ for spot on the aircraft that would normally go empty. Remember, if it comes down to either taking grandma's amazon packages or a timebuilder, grandma wins. I guess to answer question at the beginning of the thread, don't worry about training, with the money you are spending they will get you through, |

I can't help but think about the Amflight Metro that did a CFIT in Spokane about a month ago. Highly experienced, single pilot, in a Metro. My guess is he just flew through his minimum altitude on the approach. Had there been another pilot in the right seat, perhaps this could have been avoided. Don't be afraid to speak up if you think you see something about to happen that could kill you.....

[/ QUOTE ] uhhh hate to remind... but it is an aviation board and if you want to talk about other things -> that's what the squawk box is for or other websites... if you find general topics too boring then you might enjoy hanging at the squawk more often for other non-aviation discussions. ![]() not to get on anyone's case - but general topics is not switching to other than aviation related features. that would degrade the forums and lead us into a different realm of website, doncha think? ![]() besides - talking lingerie and all that girly stuff isn't going to make it more girly on this website, it's just gonna get ugly for us girls because there's like 4 girls and 2000+ guys on here -> guy vs girl ratio is just too high to hold a decent conversation regarding those type of subjects. |

Just so you guys know, I endured a slow as heck 24.0 kbps internet connection at midnight on a short layover in Manchester, NH to browse thru the thread. This thread is in such dire need of closing, that I'm going to wait until I'm on a faster connection so I can endure the 5 billion angry PM's for closing it. Before I wrap this thread up sometime sunday afternoon, let me preach a little. I started this website to serve as a firewall of sorts. Last downturn, for every starry-eyed pilot with a fist full of cash and no patience, there were at least 10 different companies selling useless snake oil. Everything I've seen in this thread I've heard before in the early 1990's. Every excuse, quasi-justification, methodology, theory or WHATEVER that I've seen in this thread to justify PFT/PFE/etc bottomfeeding is nothing new. You had several people speak from industry experience. Many of you chose not to heed it. I cannot help you in this circumstance because I can virtually guarantee, just like has happened throughout my career and especially during the tenure of running this website, that I'll recieve a letter or two from someone fresh from a PFE/PFT program wondering why the telephone isn't ringing off the hook because (s)he got 250 hours of shotgun time in the right seat. I've also heard this thread compared to the "Who's in Sanford" thread. Let the chips fall where they may but I agree. It was more or less "People who want to help you and have experience in the profession" versus "People that saw a glossy advertisement and think they can buy a short cut". So I take it as a badge of honor because in both cases, I could have been the 'cool guy' with thumbs up saying 'fantastic plan! here's a donut!' but that wasn't the case. I think it's largely a societal trend over the past 30 years almost similar to weight loss. Everyone knows that a sedentary lifestyle and eating too much makes you fat. Instead of cutting back and jogging more, we want "colon bypass sugery", "Phen-Fen" and "Ephedra" to hastily do away with the weight with the simplicity of a pill or a radical surgery. Bad physical self-image? Nevermind counseling, buy implants! Want to be an airline pilot? Nevermind gaining experience, buy a job! Next time anyone has the slightest curiosity over why nearly all entry level jobs in this profession pay dirt and have crap work rules, have a peek at this thread. It might take some reading, but the answers are there. |
