That is like asking how long is a piece of string - it depends on so many things!

Kind of an ambiguous question. The specific airline and current state of the industry would play a major role in any captain upgrade times. Pay is more, obviously, but how much is again a function of the specific airline, aircraft type, seniority... I'd say it's worth it whatever it is. |

[ QUOTE ] That is like asking how long is a piece of string - it depends on so many things! [/ QUOTE ] A piece of string is 12 inches long in the USA (about 30cm in Europe and elsewhere). Some pieces are a bit shorter, and some are much longer. Upgrading to Captain can take 0 days (hired as Captain) to forever (never upgrade), with many possibilities in between. QP |

[ QUOTE ] How long does upgrade to Captain usually take and what is the base pay? [/ QUOTE ] The basic answer? It depends! And the answer, if we were to find one is in constant flux, but I can just answer from experience and keep in mind that this is old, outdated information because it changes on a daily basis. At Skyway I was able to upgrade to captain in about 18 months in the late 1990's. The pay was a whopping $17,500. At Delta, I could have upgraded to B737-200 captain after with 2 years of seniority, but things have definetely changed since then. The pay would have been $150K or so. |

A string walks into a bar. Says to the bartender "Give me a beer!" Bartender says, "Sorry pal, we don't serve strings here." String walks into the bathroom, frays himself at the edges and ties himself into a knot, walks back out to the bartender. "Give me a beer!" he says. "Hey, aren't you that string?" challenges the bartender. "Nope" he replies, "I'm a frayed not."

It depends. Less than two years ago, FOs at my company were upgrading to captain in 6 months. Now there are no classes scheduled indefinitely. It just depends on the company's need. Pay depends on the company and the equipment. Larger aircraft and larger companies typically mean more money. |
