| I just need to be able to financially survive. I want to fly and survive. |

| Old Skool | Hey buff- Is that 18K first year pay? If so what's the second year pay like? What about flight benefits, insurance, and the like? The point I'm trying to make is, you might consider taking a step back to take two steps forward. Turbine PIC is pretty good insurance for bad times. What about lifetime earning potential? |

I am getting a part time job at a restaurant waitering/bartending that will put a few extra dollars in my wallet as I live the dream. Better find a part time job then or start a business that will allow you to fly and survive or just plain old survive once you get furloughed, lose a medical, airline goes out of business!

| You can get a part time job...but do you really think its right that you have to subsidize a career job by waiting tables. As far as lifetime earning potential I think that its nill non-regional or regional can end you up in the same place. I dunno for me...I figure theres more fun to be had and more money to be made by stayin away from the commuters. que sera sera |

Yeah, and you'd only have to work for them for two years before you could leave without repaying your training contract. Pretty cool. /sarcasm

| Sounds like a welcome to the world of business, and never forget that you're in a business. The people in the boardroom don't give a d#*m about your logbook. Just you and the other pilots. Kinda like IT is overhead, no one cuts my employer a check cause I show up at work to manage the computer infrastructure. I do appreciate the struggle you're grappling with. You've just got to remember that the boardroom isn't your friend, neccessarily. Cheers!

| I don't care. I'm a ##### and proud of it! I don't care how much money I make; frankly, I'd do it for free if I had to. All I care about is doing what I love. I mean, come on.......I'm flyin' a jet! ![]() |

Reminds me of a joke. Q. "How do you get a regional airline pilot off of your porch?" A. "Pay for the pizza." Of course, when I heard it I was a commuter pilot....I don't think they had regionals back then. ![]()

| Just wondering, is the pilot pay being discussed before or after taxes? After taxes I really can't imagine how one can survive on such a low salary. I make about $200/week and them bastards take about $50/week. I'm paying for freaking social security when I might not even have it when I need it. |

For discussion purposes only, based off minimum paym assuming lear f/o on second year pay: Pay per month Captain after year 3 @ airnet (current captain hired Nov '02 according to airlinepilotpay.com). Captain after year 3 @ regional (current captain hired in late 2002). Year Airnet My regional Difference 1 $1,889 $1725 (-164) 2 $2,488 $2550 (+62) 3 $2,488 $2625 (137) 4 $3,305 $4425 (1120) 5 $3827 $4575 (748) As you can see, the biggest difference occurs when the upgrade happens - over $12k/year more in base salary alone. It narrows more and more until year 25 when the airnet lear pay overtakes the regional pay. I understand you can make more by working overtime, but so can the regional guys. There was a 5 year captain that credited 183 hours last month - that's $11,000+ for that month. To each his own I guess . I do wish I would've flown at a company like airnet, however. The flying looks incredible!~wheelsup

| I dont fly for airnet but you can sure bank there as well. My current schedule is mon-fri usually home by 7pm. First year pay 33K, ability to earn close to 50K after your able to pick and choose your routes. If you wanna stay for the second year. A lot of guys do and allot don't many move on to corporate or fractional jobs that pay even more. I think this is getting into a cargo vs regional vs corp vs blehdiddy blah blah. And those discussions always end badly. At any rate everyones got thier own priorities and abilities whether it be more focused on money, family, vacation, big planes, small planes, props, jets, etc etc. Like you said..to each thier own. |

| Yah but thats cali money. I thought the cashiers a 7 eleven brought in six figures. J/K I can't remember where I read it but someone had said if they stayed working at mcdonalds and gone to management they'd be making more and having more time off than they would with thier 15+ years airline seniority. You'd just have to have a really good health insurance plan. |
