Default What\'s ASA\'s upgrade time

It's probably been asked before, but inquiring minds want to know.

You're getting a yellow-card for a poor question!!

Not trying to bust-balls but it's one of those things that nobody can answer, and if they give you a straight answer it's pure speculation. Why? Cause there are waaay to many variables in this industry to predict what will be going on years down the road. And in this case since ASA just got bought and nobody is clear yet on what this means......who knows?!

Chill dude, I think Kelvin's well aware that no one can tell what tomorrow will bring, but I think what Kelvin is more interested is what HAS BEEN happening as far as upgrades.

Actually it's not for me, it's for a buddy of mine who meets the mins right now. He's trying to decide should he move on to the next level or continue flight instructing to get more experience and meet the minimums for other companies. Of course I understand all of the "variables" you're talking about. He knows that also. I'm just trying to help him look at all of his options.

He really didn't know that ASA was hiring with 600/100. And when I told him, he asked what was the upgrade times. Since I didn't know I figure I would ask some of the "friendliest" aviation people in the world (you guys).
Anyways thanks for all of the responses.....the lecture and the other ones.

The potential sale of ASA may have an impact on both the hiring and the upgrade time. Things may change depending on who the new owner turns out to be.

Upgrade time is fluid thing in the airlines, so what it is today, may not be tomorrow. Anyhow, the requirements to upgrade at ASA as of now are 3000 tt, 2000 multi, and 500 with the company. So if he is just at the mins, he will need about 3 years just to meet the mins for upgrade. By the time he gets the time up in the right seat, he will have enough seniority to bid for an upgrade. Good Luck

Although the minimums are 600/100 I believe most people are getting interviews around 850+/200+. If things don't change I think the upgrades might go down to about 3 years.

It's hard to tell with the sale to SkyWest. I believe ASA will be able to fly for other carriers outside of Delta in the future which could mean growth. Growth means faster upgrades. It would be better for ASA to branch out as Delta is in big trouble right now.

Right now he is at about 750/200, so he is in good shape. He will have 1000/200 easy in about 2.5 months.

Thanks again for all of you guys responses!

Hmmm... So with ASA being sold and OO with no union, I hate to use the staple word, but it is a possibility. With that said... upgrade at Eagle might start to look attractive to some Chandler guys.

Staple, as in stapling the seniority list? Nah, they're keeping them as separate companies right now.

The LAST thing someone with 750tt should be concerned with is when they will upgrade!!!!

That has always been one of my hot buttons. Asking that in an interview = out the door.

At 750TT, It's gonna take at least 2 years to get enough time to upgrade into a crj anyways because of insurance req's. Chances are, he doesn't meet the ATP requirements anyways (read beyond the 1500tt)

Again, he knows all of this you guys are telling me..... i.e. uncertainty of the future and he did not even know that ASA minumums were so low. When I told him about what some people were getting hired with , he inquired because he figures that upgrade times would be longer because of the lower mininums. Since I didn't know the upgrade times I figured I'd ask. Get a grip guys.

I know that there is no guarantee. Nothing in life is ever guaranteed, except that you will meet your maker one day.

And thanks again for all of the input. I figured that no question would be a dumb question on here. (Unless it's about the benifits of PFT or PFJ)

Let's put it this way. The gentleman right in front of me at Skyway enjoyed a 13 month upgrade. It took me about 18 months.

Upgrade times are about like going to Disneyworld. Today, at 1616 EDT, you can probably experience a five minute wait for "Space Mountain". By the time you leave Apopka, hit I-4 and then SR-428, that five minute wait may be forty minutes.

United was running three-year upgrades when they were last hiring. If you got hired today, it's going to be a lot longer than three years.

Definetly. However this is difficult to convey to many w/ 6-700hrs and looking at their first airline job.

Well to those folks, However difficult it is to believe, you could find your self in a worse postion by making a hasty decision, you could be unemployed. Im not saying dont go there, i dont even know the specifics. but be responsible about it and find out that info, before you quit your current job. You dont want to be in class and furloughed before you even touch a cardboad cut out of a CRJ.

But then, if you're looking for safety, stability and always having the abilitiy to say "I've made the right career choice!" walk, nay, RUN from any job involving a yoke.

Except if it's connected to a team of oxen.

Yeah, but I was living in Altamonte! We only had a short snippet of I-4 and the rest were packed!
