Default Where is everyone?

Hi to everyone, I'm new here at Jetcareers. I'm about to start on training in the next week or so. I been logging on to this site for the past week now and it seems like there are no helo pilots around!! Whats going on? Why does helo world seems like a ghost town?

Hey bud, welcome to JC!

Not a lot of us around - and most of us are ex-helo pilots anyway.

You are starting helicopter training next week? Awesome! Good for you. Where will you be training?

I'm going to start training in Long Island NY with Eastern helicopter training. After I receive my PPL I will try to continue training with Northeast Helicopter out in CT. The reason for that is because they are a part 141 school. They are the closes to me.

Thank you for the welcome

Cool! I fly into FRG almost every night.

Did you know we're doing a Meet & Greet in Boston on April 26th? You should come up!

Thank you for that invite, I will try my best to make it. So you are a ex helo? that kind of scares me a bit, every helo pilot I come across tells me that they left helo world to become a fix wing pilot. I hope I'm making the right investment!

I am an ex-Army helicopter pilot. I flew that big wonderful beast in your avatar.

There are pros and cons for helo v. fixed wing - but I certainly wouldn't mind flying helos for a living. Fixed wing just seemed to fit my lifestyle better.

Cool: I did a lot of traveling in that big bird in the desert...

I just hope that flying helo will fit my lifestyle.... So far I believe it will.

Hey! Welcome.

I am a huge helo fan! I only got to log 8 hours in the R22, but that's because I decided to finish FW, and then go back for my RW add-ons.

What are your goals with helicopters? What type of helo ops do you want to fly!

Again, welcome.

Thank you for the welcome scottyboy75 and Pietrantonio, at the moment I'm working on my flight school package for the Army reserve. That would be a dream come true if I can get there. On the civilian side I would not mind giving tours around NYC. Really has long as I'm flying I believe I would be happy. I guess I will see when time comes.

It is weird in calender years I am 33. But in usarec years I am only 27. I don't know what changed but oh well. I have a seat on the May board so its up to them now.

They'd take me enlisted up to 42 I think (only branch that will do this). For Flight Training it says if you are 33-34 years old you may be granted an age waiver since 33 is the pure cut-off.

Wonder if they'd still waiver those who are 35-36 years old for rotorwing...

Under special circumstnces an age waiver may be granted. I am a CFII Rotorcraft and have prior service so it makes me marketable.

Great opportunity for those who desire a rotorcraft career path it seems. The Army must really be in need of Warrant Flight Officers!

Boy, things have changed since I've been out. When I started my flight training the cut off was 30, and there was no waiver that I can recall. Times are changing.

I did confirm via email with the Army through thier website.

They will not age waiver past 34 at this time (at least not in my circumstance of no prior service with a commercial pilot cert). Even 33 or 34 is a long long shot to being the application process.

32 of less is what they really want to even talk with you to begin the process of applying for Flight Training. Pretty much, the younger the better is the "feeling" I got.

Then, since they still have a job to do, they referred me to either enlist since I can be a UAV pilot if I'd like or work in a civilian capacity in non-flying jobs. So that was all less than interesting to me. Not exactly my cup of tea...lol.

Looks like I'll be sticking to being a fixed wing pilot. Maybe I'll just take some helicopter training in the future for fun. Of course that will be when I make millions flying a shiny new jet

I'm back. I went back to fixed wing, but I enjoy helos more. So, I'm making the transition back to the right seat of the R22 this fall!
