I had another near miss today. Coming into the pattern on a 45, I had made calls at 10 miles, 5 miles, 2 miles on the 45, entering midfield downwind......... Helicopter crossing over midfield at around pattern altitude calls out "where is that traffic????""" as I see his rotor blades under my wing. Not more than 20 feet below me. Need new drawers Do the reports I make just go nowhere or does someone really have to die before the FAA does something???

As far as Silver State goes, I have not heard 1 good thing about them. I have heard similar stories as mentioned in this thread, they give you a loan then charge high interest etc etc etc. If you really want to fly helicopter join the military. It sounds like there would be less comitment then learning at Silver State. Don't they have an atrocious accident record too?

Dark Blue or black "transitioning" back to KPVU right at pattern altitude. I bet he was listening to KPVU ATIS while he was flying over U77 and not paying any attention to the CTAF or looking outside.

Sounds like a Universal ship. I am kind of disappointed I was supposed to work down there but am at number 2. I was hoping to meet for lunch or something. Shane

PS: word coming through the Rumot mill is that the city doesn't want any more running skid landings, since the newly refinished runway and taxiway are all scratched up already. What would that mean for you guys?

It means we would not be able to train to PTS standards. We teach run on landings for High density altitude operations. That would suck. Not sure why they would allow us to have a hangar there but not let us train to standards. They may have to relook at that. Shane

How far do you usually skid though? Some of the scratches are HUNDREDS of yards long. There are a whole bunch between A3 and A5 at U77 that go the whole distance between those taxiways. I think thats what is getting the city pissed off.

Could be from not smoothly lowering the collective during the landing. If you come in hot and leave the collective up you will slide forever. This is bad because it raises the potential for dynamic rollover. Or if they are practicing running takeoff it could be longer. The skids stay in contact with the ground until you reach ETL then you can get off the ground. This might be the reason for the longer slide marks. Other than cosmetic is it really damaging the asphalt? Shane

From the city's standpoint they just paid for the resurfacing job and its being marred up.

I could see that. Not sure what else we could do though. It gets dicey when we fly on the North side of the field. Some Vet calls if we pass overhead at 1,000 ft.
