I been at this flight school out in florida, they offer from your private thru your commercial like any other school but they also offer mountain and external load training. I was wondering if I really need that training to get a job in the helo industry. any remarks...... I really like to know because I'm trying to narrow it down too which school attend and if I should go for fix wings. trying decide....

Depends... if you want a fire fighting job in the west... mountain and longline are requirements. If you want a Gulf of Mexico job, don't worry about it. Focus on getting your ratings, and instructing to get 1000 hours. Leave the extras out, if you ask me.

Where do thet do mountain training in FL? I wouldn't pay for long line training most companies will give you the training for free if you have the hours. There really is not a rating for being mountain certified.

| Old Skool | Good question... I didn't even catch that the training was in Florida! What do they do, simulate mountain training?

| I believe they also do some training in the west. This is where they do the mountain training. I think it's in CA or NV, but not sure. I was looking to go there at one time.

| I didn't finish my helo training. I only got 5 hours of dual before I realized that my money would be better spent on a house. Now that I'm starting a new job with better pay, I might be able to finish the commercial add-on for rotorcraft in the next few years.
