I'll be out at FlightSafety in Wichita for two weeks starting next week and was wondering if any of you have any recommendations on things to do or see while I'm out there. It doesn't look like there is much to see ![]() Mods, if this isn't the right place for this, move me on over. |

I seem to remember a brewery downtown and a place called Emerson Biggens.

The Scotch and Sirloin was really, really good that last time I was there. Exceptional waitresses too. It is like a Hooters, but the waitresses wear short black skirts and low cut blouses. I had an exceptional steak, escargot, booze, the works. I think dinner for two was around a C-note so it was more pricey than Burger King. But...did I mention the waitresses? Yum.

Yeah that place was good. Always took the Italian and Japanese Air Force Detachments there for Dinner. If you're really desparate, I think I could set you up with my ex-wife there.....

Last few times I was in Wichita, I've been to Oldtown. Seemed to be lots of stuff there (restaurants and whatnot). If you are into space programs and stuff (and have time for a day trip), Hutchinson might be a good trip. Kansas Cosmosphere has lots of Soviet/Russian space hardware, that is hard to see outside of the country. Decent restaurant at the airport there, too. |

![]() Also, I'll +1 the Scotch and Sirloin. OP, you could go to the Warren Theater and drink and watch a movie.... there's also the Cosmosphere a bit outside of Wichita, a crazy space-museum. Who are you going to FSI for? I actually like Wichita quite a bit, it's a nice little place to chillax. Last edited by cencal83406; November 4th, 2009 at 00:35. Reason: not cosmodrome.... cosmosphere

Thanks for all of your replies! It doesn't seem as bad as I thought. I'll be out there for a Citation 525 Initial maintenance course. It was a scholarship I applied for and received, so I can't complain. I'm actually looking forward to it. I'm driving out there, so moving around won't be a problem. Thanks again everyone!

Seriously, do they import those waitresses? I can't imagine that much talent being locally grown in ICT.

There's a real cool museum right next to McConnell AFB, the Kansas Aviation Museum. I was there in 2006 and they were still remodeling so hopefully it looks a lot better now. They do a lot of historic preservation on old aircrafts if your into that sort of thing. It was really neat to see everything they had there, even though it was small. Here's the website, it might be worth a drive across town! Especially if the 135's are doing touch and gos! http://www.kansasaviationmuseum.org/index.php

NuWay is an absolute must. The one at Central and Woodlawn is the best, but the original one downtown is great, too. Cinnamons Deli is fantastic...I get the TAC and a cup of cream of broccoli (in the bread bowl) every time I'm there. As someone mentioned, the Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson is excellent, but it's about 1:15 outside of town. Well worth the detour I think. The Wichita aviation museum is decent. I haven't been there in years though. The Wichita boat house in downtown was cool too. For night life, Old Towne is probably the best bet, though East Wichita does have a bit to offer.

One more place we used to hit up for lunch. It's down by Boeing and Spirit. Little hole in the wall called Bomber Burgers. Packed with the Boeing crowd at lunch, looks awful inside, but awesome burgers!

I think there is an antique fan museum somewhere. I remember seeing a brochure about it somewhere. |

Is Old Chicago the place that has the "100 Beer club"? Whatever that place was, it was awesome!

They had some great ice storms when I was there.....Had power out for 3 days several times.... ....Great place to practice crosswind landings. Lot of the small strips (Wellington) are 36 -18 and if its not 270 @ 25 gusting to 35 then something is wrong that day. .....When the B-1 was at McConnell it used to be fun to hear all the car alarms go off in our parking lot when it launched (but you won't get that now). .....Sumner County (south of Wichita) had the highest production of wheat per acre of any county in the US. And one of the largest Meth producing counties with all the Anhydrous Amonia around at the farms. ....ICT is an easy airport to get in and out of. Before 9/11 I could leave my office 40 min before a flight and have time to park and make it before the door closed. Add another 40 min for them only having two security lines now. ....airport Hilton is kind of crappy. ....If you're extremely bored, there's the Chisolm Trail Museum in Wellington (19 miles south of ICT). Allow 8 or so minutes to view everything in it. .....There's a huge pool room bar close to the airport (can't remember the name right now) .....tornados are kind of cool (unless you live in a trailer). Saw some of the strangest looking sky's in my life in ICT. Best part was they paid me to move away after 4 years! Last edited by jskibo; November 4th, 2009 at 17:01. |

Old town, aviation museum west side of McConnell, musuems on the river. See what is going on at century II or the colisuem north of town. They opened a new Mongolian barbeque at 21st and Ridge that is great. As far as Hutchison goes, I think the fair is over but The guys that recommended the COMOSPHERE I think are making an understatement. It is a world class museum (smithsonian affiiate) that has more manned stuff from the USSR, outside of the uSSR. It also has the apollo X111 command modue and Gus Grissom capsule (Liberty Bell 7??) they recovered from the seabed 10,000 feet down and restored. An absolutey do not miss.
