Default I didn't know where else to put this....

I saw my first A380 in real life today.

I got to see it from a couple angles, and I must say that is one ugly ass bird.

Not even like a 2AM special.

Bad.

I tried to find a good angle, but nope, it's just that ugly.

Now, before you hate, I have some buds that have been inside and rode on it, and have nothing but good things to say. Hopefully, I'll get the opportunity to ride on it and enjoy the creature comforts. The only thing I hope is that I don't have to see it before I get onboard.

That is all....

Ha! I don't know how anyone can defend that thing... That it's ugly is just a fact of life.

I don't find it that satisfying to look at either.

Still talking about the plane?

Are you going to start a poll on which is better?

It's no Concorde, but I actually don't find it that bad looking. That being said, a few simple changes would have made it a much much better looking ship. I think the stretched version will be more appealing. Had they put the flight deck on the upper deck and smoothed out the forward nose section, it wouldn't be that bad. But engineers design aircraft, not works of art.

Yeah, I was a little underwhelmed when I first saw it "in the flesh." I didn't find it really all that ugly...just a bit odd.

I was with a group of spotters in London last year and they told me that it was significantly quieter than the 747. Well, when I finally got the chance to hear it (on final approach), I really couldn't tell the difference. Maybe the difference is more noticeable on climb-out?

Too bad FedEx ALPA sold themselves out to get an A-380 pay rate at the expense of a separate 757 pay rate.

The fact that our 757 pilots make $10+/hr more than FedEx 757 pilots and that's before you take into account FedEx's 4a2b cuts doesn't sit well with some of them.

I used to call the B1900D the "Flying Forehead," but the A380 really takes the cake now...

The alternatives are:

Boeing New Large Airplane (ca. 1990)
and,

the McDonnell-Douglas MD-12
Given the A380's use of materials a la mode and an empty weight of 610,000 lb, I am dubious of the MD-12's proposed stated empty weight of 402,700 lb.

The first time I saw the A380 in person was in JFK. It was the first week of service by Emirates to JFK.

I remember my Captain saying: "Damn, that's a huge bitch". Yes, it is big and ugly.

+1!

About the only truly beautiful thing that Airbus built was the A-340-600 with the big-assed engines.
