I have been zapped a few times, all were at night under NVG's though. We're "supposed" to wear Aircrew Laser Eye Protection glasses whenever we fly into certain areas of the ME.

Can somebody describe what this is like? Is there no doubt that you are getting lasered?

When it happened to me the whole cockpit lit up green. Lasers diffuse as they get farther away in the atmosphere, so what may be a tiny beam at ground level might be a much larger beam when it hits your aircraft. Just lasted a second.

It was a bright green light coming from a subdivision by the airport I was flying at. It was bright enough that when it started shining on us, it got my attention, but it was too bright to continue to look at it.

It wasn't anything like the light shinging from a promotional light that they have at stores for grand-openings etc...

Fill out a "Laser Beam Exposure Questionnaire"-Appendix 3 of the AIM. There are full directions on where to send it. I have had to fill out a few in the North East.

I got spot lighted last night by what I am guessing was one of those large hand held "100 million candle power" type. Wasn't as bad as a laser but still pretty distracting. Was about 1700ft just outside an FAF on practice approaches with a student. I told the tower but they didn't seem to care.
