I met Ben at NJC 07, he was manning the keg for a bit when he noticed me walk by without a beer in my hand, and promptly stopped me and without asking 'forced' my first beer of the night on me. We ended up talking for half an hour or so about training stuff as I had just gotten my AGI and was teaching my first ground school, and moving into a "D.O." role at the flight school and he had just gotten his CFI certs if I remember correctly. Great guy from that conversation and the hundreds more he shared on the forums. I'm sure if his wife and kids need [I]anything[I] the JC community is just a phone call or an email away. Rest in peace, Ben.

Oh man, this is awful. Ben has been a huge help to me personally and many others on here. Don't even know what to say. This is horrible.

Never actually met Ben, but he was one of the "classic" characters from this site that I always recognized. Such a shame. His loss will be felt for some time to come in this community. RIP, Ben. You will be missed. |

I believe it was him and his wife that we met at Red Iguana a while ago and my husband went shooting with him over the summer. From everything I knew he was a good guy! He will be missed for sure. I can't even imagine what his wife is going through right now!!! jtrain - do you have any way to contact Ben's wife so we can send flowers or something?

Wow. It makes me wonder if the outcome would have been any different had he put it down in a field right underneath him at the first sign of trouble, rather than go for the airport. But nobody knows. I don't want to Monday morning quarterback him. RIP.
