Electronic Logbook

Anyone have any experience with Logbook Pro or any other elctronic logbook programs? I'm thinking about purchasing and would apreciate any input.

Right now im using a trial version of Logbook Pro and it's pretty good, you gotta kinda work out some of the bugs because there is quite a few features that take some getting used to. Of course I am somewhat computer illiterate so my review is a little biased but i would suggest using the trial version and see if it best fits your needs then if you like it go get the real version.

I have been using Logbook Pro for over a year (PC version only). It is fantastic. It is a pretty detailed program so it takes some learning to use all of the functions, but from a basic logging standpoint it is simple. Well worth the cost.

Also as the above post mentions there is a demo version. Its the full version but it only allows you so many entries. You can start using it and if you decide to buy it you just enter the code and keep going.

One thing that I hated was the default color scheme. This is easily changed!

Logbook Pro is great....

Just remember to back up your files on another hard drive or a disk.

My computer crashed, but I thankfully had my stuff on a CD.

Ditto to the back up. I keep a current backup file on my web server space as well as on a CD that is not kept in the house.

Logbook Pro is very good.

I still maintain a written logbook, however, LBP makes it much easier to check currency, assembly ~any~ kind of totals, etc.

Highly recommended.

Ten years from now, will Logbook Pro still have a way to log the hours if the program changes at all? Computers change a lot faster than aviation does but I still want to know about this before I buy it. I also have the demo version and it's very nice.

I have Jepp Flitelog and I love it. It allows me to filter the different types of hours I need to identify. I fill out my book then input the data. Works great!
$60.00 online.

There has been a major upgrade since I first purchased it and this is/was a non-issue. At some point a better system will probably be created, but you can pretty much count on the ability to convert old data into the new program. After all Logbook Pro is really just a spreadsheet that is all setup and tricked out for pilots. If you are really good with Excel you could create a similar application, but it would take quite a bit of time. For either program the data is stored in a very simple format that can be accessed with a number of different programs.

You definitely should be keeping a paper log as well. The perk for having the electronic version as well is that you can do quick reports and currency tracking. It is most handy when filling out an 8710 form (just select the 8710-1 Part III form option and out come the numbers! Assuming that you have correctly setup and used the program).

Topic has been posted about many times in the past.
But to sum it up. It's a great program. I recently started using it, and find it very valuable.
Might find some more opinions using the search function.

1. If the program is still available, you can expect any update or revision to include the ability to either read or convert the prior versions data files.

2. You can check this out specifically, but I know that LB Pro has export capability to common data formats. This is ultimately your data safety feature. The newest version of Microsoft Excel, for example can still read delimited text files, Lotus 1-2-3, and dBase files created 20+ years ago. The ones to watch out for are the ones that have proprietary/protected data formats that are not exportable to or readable by other programs.
